Eagle News #5
Given the weather prediction and with the game on television the crowd at Richmond Oval of 1662 hardy souls was quite good. In fact up by some 300 on the game last year. Hopefully though the weather will be a little better for our game against Sturt at Thebarton and we will see a good crowd – a real test for us as Sturt will be very keen to win. This the West Torrens Heritage game for this year. (details below)

WAFC did a great job in promoting the day re the 50 years of footy at Richmond and was great to see some of the stars of that era at the game. Those who were at the WAFC lunch heard some great stories from Lindsay Head and Jack Ryan.

Sadly there were 2 serious injuries yesterday – both from accidents - hopefully young Hill from Westies will be OK and wish him a speedy recovery with his broken leg.
Last night Dennis Redden from the Eagles was operated on for a broken jaw – will probably be an 8 week or so injury as it required significant surgery. We wish Dennis all the best and wish him a speedy recovery too.

Seeing the scoreboard at Richmond for the first time I must say it is impressive – numbers were easily read and the scrolling information panel was excellent.

Our current membership is 1730 and those who may have forgotten to renew should have received a gentle reminder by now – It is certainly no too late to get on board as a member – we need you – especially as clubs like Westies and South have certainly boosted their membership numbers.

If you aren’t a member then join up and get your 3 free emails each week. Go to the website and follow the membership links – this weeks independent match review by Peter argent will be sent tomorrow with the Coaches comments out by Wednesday then the team selections late on Thursday – don’t miss out – sign up now.

Whilst visiting the website check out Tom Couch's latest article. A new article each week and you can check out his previous articles too. His thoughts re Mark Passador’s return to the league are well worth reading.

Season tickets still great value at just $120 – still 15 games to go - but if you prefer the home match ticket then if you get yours by Friday you’ll get 9 home games including this week’s game against Sturt at Thebarton. Both tickets are great value as they also include full membership.

Remember every Thursday Night is the Members’ Draw at the club - be there to win the jackpot - drawn around 7:00/7:15/7:30pm every Thursday.

WWTFC honours the West Torrens Football Club with the Heritage game this Saturday at Thebarton Oval. The team will proudly wear the West Torrens gold sash jumper. This is the last opportunity to get one of the West Torrens heritage jumpers. With this game we will have played in all the modern era jumpers of the West Torrens club - the large Eagle, the vertical stripes and now the gold sash. Later in the year we will honour the Woodville Football Club by wearing the Warrior jumper again completing the wearing of the 3 modern era Woodville jumpers. Thus this year sees the end of the old clubs heritage jumpers in games and will be your last chance to buy these – after the game on e-Bay.

Also how will you represent the Eagles this year - we need new recruits to play for us - 8-Ball and Darts competitions - if you want to represent the Eagles see Nathan at the Woodville Oval Bar.

SUPER SUNDAY – Sunday May 4th – 12:00 NOON – ALL WELCOME
$25 for BBQ Lunch and your drinks for the 2 hours plus entry into the super draw – 12 prizes with first prize of $1000. Contact the club to buy your entry ticket or available at the door on Sunday.

I believe we are getting better each week and am looking forward to this week’s game – we have been very attacking and very accurate in our games and withstood West Adelaide’s very defensive style of game on the weekend – so on the Thebarton Oval which is in great condition I expect us to do well.

That was quite clever to work it out this way, cd:

'06: 60s guernsey
'07: 70s guernsey
'08: 80s guernsey

I suggest there be a 90s guernsey for 2009 - the hoops jumper.

Looking forward to seeing the guernseys. Hopefully Sturt wear their traditional jumper as opposed to the away guernsey for this day.

Lucky we aren't playing the Bays.

Blue and Gold sash , how would some of their supporters cope?

Well done to the club again in honoring both historys.

The sash was also worn in the late 40s and early 50s, the results were a little different then. Doesn't matter because you weren't around? Well I don't remember footy in the 80s either.

Well done Spelly :D
We could of course move the game to footy Park and kick 13 goals in a quarter in that "JUMPER" and run over the bays if we were playing the bays that is
I am old enough to remember the 80's and some of the 70's just
