Norwood's Nick Gieschen Retires

Per the Norwood website...
Nick Gieschen, Results & the future
Ladies & Gentleman

It is with disappointment that I inform you of a tough decision Nick Gieschen has had to make in announcing his retirement from league football due to his increasing work commitments as a player Manager.

Nick who we recruited from Victoria this year has been unable to consistently train and apply himself to his football as he would like due to the ever growing demands of his working environment.

Nick who is a quality person and a true professional in every aspect will be missed by all here at the Club.

Sad to see him go, looked like a pretty decent recruit. Is it all happening again? :?

Can't be much of a "player manager" if he can't even organise himself. Thanks for wasting our time Nick.

Well peoples circumstances do change and I guess better now than later in the season. I wish him luck in whatever path he follows and hope that this gives others a chance to move up and shine.

Regards
JAS

Not a great loss if you ask me, ambition outweighed his ability and handball happy.

I have a couple of questions that I hope someone might be able to answer...

So what now happens in regards to his contract then ?

As Nick has retired, do Norwood still have to pay out the monies agreed upon when he signed ?

Can he be replaced by another player or are we passed the SANFL's cut off date for list additions / management ?

It's a shame, I have seen him play a couple of times, looked fairly handy...

It just gets worse for the Redlegs, despite the opinion of some of their own fans... ?

Big Phil...

As far as i know, clubs can still recruit up until mid year, it was always like that as far as i knew anyway. Not sure how the matter falls into the salary cap though.

What exactly is it that's "getting worse" Big Phil? So a player decided he didn't want to play. Big deal, it happens all the time. And what's wrong with Norwood supporters looking for a few positives rather than focussing on what supporters from other clubs apprear to be obsessed with?

There's nothing to be gained by being pessimistic. Try and remember what it was like when Central were ordinary for 30 years.

I think people need to remember with Nick that while he was a recruit he wasn't hand picked by the club. My understanding was he was moving to Adelaide for work from Melbourne and wanted to continue playing football. He had been coached by former Norwood player Paul McCormack in the Melbourne Metropolitan League who suggested he approach Norwood for a game.

So he didn't come with great expections or as a high priced recruit. Having said that he had shown some reasnoble signs so far this year so it is a bit dissapointing he is not playing on.

Mate, get over yourself, for god's sake...

I was actually implying that I think it's bad luck for your mob, I mentioned I thought he was a good player and thought it was a bit of a body blow to you, I wasn't having a dig mate... :?

Trust me, you don't need to say any of that crap about the past, I'm sure ALL Doggies supporters remembering the hard times... I know I will never forget, you know why... ??? :-k

It makes ALL of our recent success that little bit more sweeter, knowing that the guys before us had to do it tough and we wouldn't have had the success to date, if they didn't play their part, SO THERE, PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT, HA !!! \:D/ =D>

And mate, I don't give a S**T what your supporters think about the going ons of your club, whether it's positive or negative. I only put an opinion on here because that is what the forum is about isn't it ?? Jesus, there are some people out there that tend to forget this a fair bit :-s

Oh and trust me, I'm not obsessed with thoughts on other teams and their issues, again, it's called having an opinion. The only obsession I have is supporting my club, the greatest in the SANFL, the mighty Central Districts Football Club... :-"

Pessimism might not gain anything, you are right, but I couldn't care less what you think, I'm happy with what I put on here so you can go and get stuffed !!! \:D/

GO U DOGGIES...

Big Phil... :D

He wasn't good enough anyway. He has done enough to get a keyring though.

Gav hoped to be playing by the end of the month. He is waiting for the AFL to de register/clear him. he is fit and raring to go but this type of issue is given little priority at the AFL apparently and there is no way to puch it through the system

Yep, but I'd rather him use his blistering speed to run up and down the wing! :D

surely norwood should get the sanfl to do something if norwood can't, this is disgraceful really as the bloke should be 'cleared' back asap
