I Love This Pic

Postby Wedgie » Sat Apr 12, 2008 10:02 pm

One of the few good things about Prospect (there's not many) is because of the weird shape of the ground I can stand in a pocket of the ground and take photos like this that give the illusion I'm actually on the ground. I love shots like this where you can see SANFL action with a packed out ground behind it, I think it looks sensational:

not that it was the tv game today (& it should have been) but it amazes me that they don't put a camera on the otherside of the ground to show pictures like that with a big crowd rather than the few here & there on the outer side

Great shot Wedgie, still can't believe there was under 4 thousand there, what we would all love to see is a packed SANFL local ground again for a home and away game :o and bayman, there was quite a few out on the eastern side as well, then you had the Sturt cheer squad and there mates etc down the northern end and then the groggies and mates down the southern end, think somehow someone has the crowd figures a little below of what was really there

That's been mentioned many times before Bayman.
I think its an issue with access and cabling etc.
Not 100% sure but I think some VFL games do exactly what you suggested.

I think the small matter of the sun setting in the West makes filming from the eastern side of any suburban oval problematical...

TAJ was open but dont' get me started about my opinion on some of the facilities at Prospect today.

Back to the shot, I reckon you could have a similar photo in the 90s, the 80s, the 70s, the 30s, etc and it would look similar hence why Im always caught up with a shot like that especially when taken from the same side of the ground as to where the background is.

Only other oval where I've managed to take a similar shot is Glenelg.

There's not a lot of value standing in pockets like that for the 'speccie' shot but I think the one with action happening in the foreground with the hundreds of eyes in the background following it makes up for it.

Good point folks, imagine my shot if the packed grand stands were behind it.

Personally as I enjoy getting crowd shots in the background I think we should move all grand stands to the eastern side so the sun will be behind my camera shots! :D

And the Adelaide media will have you believe that people dont want to know about SANFL, only the AFL teams.

Looks pretty well patronised to me.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Can someone let me know which Sturt player that is?
I actually had to shrink the file down to get it on here and have a version about 2 or 3 times as big and I reckon it would be a great shot for a pool room of whoever that player is and I'd be happy to print it out and pass it on to him.
