Dear CD and other Eagles fans

Postby am Bays » Sun Apr 06, 2008 4:59 pm

Serious post despite my view that there is no need for clash guernseys IMO when away sides wear white shorts, there are different coloured socks and differnent colours on guernseys despite one common hue.

All that aside, why do Woodville - West Torrens persist in wearing a predominantly gold guernsey agaisnt Glenelg when we both share gold as a colour?

Last years first semi final was my first game I witnessed between the two sides since 1996. I found it far more difficult (but not impossible) to distinguish between the two sides when the Eagles wore their gold guernsey compared to their old Footscray inspired blue guernsey (their best IMO). (I didn't attend yesterday's game between the two clubs but heard the commentators raise it as an issues and it got me thinking about this question).

I would of thought a presominantly blue guernesy would provide a far greater contrast between the two clubs? Especially as we have expanded the size of our gold sash to accomodate our generous new major sponsor and their blue is a royal/normal blue compared to a dark/navy blue.

Thoughts???
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

From afar a lot of the contests yesterday just appeared as flashes of gold, and it was difficult to distinguish between teams during in-close pieces of play.

Just a thought what will your team wear at the next woodville game between the two sides ?I assume you guys have an away jumper.
When the EAGLES wear the blue jumper guys like yourself complain that there is no woodville element .
So if the EAGLEs wear blue you complain if they yellow you complain
Put your money were your mouth is design a clash jumper and send it to cd .
Just for your info your fans could clearly see the two jumpers from afar yesterday they kept yelling holding the ball whenever the bays players touched an Eagles player .

when wwt wore their mainly blue jumper it was said (on radio etc) that it clashed with the black of the glenelg jumper, so perhaps it just clashes regardless, personally i don't have a problem with jumpers clashing but if the majority think it does the league may get the 'away team' to wear an alternative strip that doesn't clash say like a all white v the dark jumper from either team

the teams that did clash imho is west & glenelg (west now wears a red strip regardless of where we play them)

south & norwood (do norwood wear the red jumper all the time when playing south ?)
sturt & central

Thank you for your serious reply to my serious post.....

read my post again I say their is no need for a clash guernsey between our clubs.

Mickyj wrote:When the EAGLES wear the blue jumper guys like yourself complain that there is no woodville element .

OMG if your club is so insecure that you change guernsey on what opposition supporters sledge you about you have far greater problems than I ever thought - in all seriousness I don't think you change guernseys becasue of what Bays, Sturt, North, Port supporters say.

Mickyj for once I'm trying to be serious, I repeat I don't think either of our clubs need to wear a clash guernsey when we play each other.

PS we don't complain about the amout of gold in your guernseys we complain about the lack of green - and IMO your Footscray inspired guernsey had more green than gold.....

glenelg don't have an 'away' jumper, personally i like the 1934 vintage jumper to use as an 'away' jumper. i know tassie doesn't but in time the league will make these decisions subject to clubs constitutions

Also please explain why the Eagles wore Blue shorts. Surely white shorts is the smart option....

What's the problem?
A gold side against a black side (with a diagonal advertising banner).
Crikey even when I was pissed at previous games I didn't even get close to getting them mixed up, how the hell could anyone mistake a guernsey that is predominately gold mixed up with a sash.
That'd be like saying you'd get Port mixed up with North.
And according to the Glenelg song its not gold its yellow.

Its not rocket science, they wear their their yellow guernsey away as it doesn't clash with anyone's guernsey and they wear their blue guernsey at home unless it clashes with someone else, then they wear their yellow one then too
A predominately light guernsey against a preominately dark guernsey makes sense.

Didn't say it was impossible but not as easy, IMO, when Eagles used to wear a predominantly blue and green guernsey agaisnt us - like their current home strip blue guernsey green yoke with a yellow eagle....

Tassie - calling the stats for the eagles as i do each game I didnt have an issue as the gold back contrasts with the black back of glenelg.

The main issue was with our Royal Blue outfit and your Black outfit when it is darker and wet can be very hard to determine - this is the earliest we've played the bays for a while - mid winter can be more of an issue and the gold stands out better.

For the players on the field i understand our gold against your black does make a distinction - although didnt help yesterday.

I do believe your wider gold sash has made a positive difference - was noticeable.

Whilst it is easier to call it an away jumper ours is more a clash jumper as we have certain teams we wear it against. Thus can be worn at home too.

We wear it home and away against Centrals - although with the dogs new away jumper that may change.

Agree Tassie. The yellow one should only be worn AWAY against Central, South, West and Norwood. It's worn far too often for my liking.

Exactly, whenever we played Glenelg in the blue, I found that it was hard to tell which team was which, regardless of which team had the white shorts, makes people have to concertrate harder on the game and which way the ball was going.
