Heard an interview on 5AA last night with Lincoln Tyner? Who has previously made the Australian Cricket series 'Calypso Summer' etc. He's made some about the State v State games, and has cut it into small segments, however I think it's screening at half time either on saturdays or maybe on ABC2 at some time. He makes a great doco. Has anyone seen it or know anymare about them?

The episode during half time of the North/Eagles game was fantastic, highlights of the 1958 state game between Vic and SA at the MCG. Unfortunately, South Australia got murdered but was great to see old footage of players like Abley, Kerley, Skilton, Whitten, and Barassi running around. Lincoln Tyner does a great job giving information about the game and about the production of the footage (eg. 1958 game was never shown in South Australia due to Television not being available till 1959). This weeks episode is going to be 1961 Brisbane Carnival SA Vs Tasmania. Will be sure to set the VCR for that one!

Yeah the game snippets shown from last Saturday's ABC coverage was the 58 game between SA and Vic, SA got belted by over 20 goals. Barassi kicked 5, Kerley was playing full forward.

I wouldn't call is State of Origin though, just State footy.

The game featured this week was SA v Tas at the Gabba in 1961. SA won by 7 points, no real standout highlights shown apart from a great goal by Daryl Baldock on a tight angle.

Interestingly, a familiar voice was used for the commentary, appears as though Gerry Harrison (i think it was him) did a recent commentary of the game's highlights, because he obviously wouldn't have been old enough to do the commentary at the time. Presumably there was no commentary done at the time the game was played or the quality of the audio deteriorated over the last 40 or so years.

I gotta remember to set the video, damn it!
About what time is it aired, I'm guessing between 3 and 3.30

Yeah, the coverage has been starting at 2, so the highlights around 3.15 or so, if you set your video between 3 and 3.30 should be right I'd say.

The game they showed today at half time on the ABC was SA v Victoria in 1983 at Footy Park

Some great highlights, Bradley 4 great running goals, Motley emerging on the scene with some class efforts, and Aish and Neil Craig doing well.

Croweaters won by about 56 points - 26.16 to 17.14.

Spelly, do you have any info on this game, goalkickers/best players etc? :)

Yep! Still got two running. They do the job and play my old tapes.
When they die in 3-4 years I'll expect to be able to go to flash drive recorders - with no moving parts they'll last.
In the meantime I'll copy the tapes of Norwood's winning Premiership matches to a computer HDD.

Likewise, I have 2 and use them regularly for taping the footy. Watched the ABC game and the 83 State game highlights, fantastic to see a young Mots showing off his skills at only 18, what a star!
