Idea for State Game

Postby Dogsbody » Thu Mar 27, 2008 5:38 pm

Back in 2006, a group of guys from the Redlegs and Blues cheer groups constructed a run-through banner for the SA team, held up on the night by supporters from each club. Another one should be made for this year's game.

I also reckon that if this does happen, a little message to the AFL should be on it in reference to the fake "Origin" game. Something like...

(one side)
Origin footy may be dead
But the passion still remains
State League footy rules
and the SANFL shall reign

(other side)
A battle of the titans
A true test of might
Bring it on Victoria
SA loves a fight

We could get West End in on the caper again like in 2006, with WE-Draught stickers all over the top.

But I'm after your thoughts as well... :D

Love it. If you are feeling up to it, perhaps you could challenge the size of the Big Bertha banner that Woodville had - or Phil H, do you think this would be too much to handle? ;)

I think you should try to have each colour that the 9 clubs comprise of on there as well.

The multi-coloured thing should be a flag in the crowd, I reckon.

Stitch a bunch of club scarfes together and slam a large SANFL badge in the middle!

(one side)
A battle of the power states
Although that causes great debate
There's more interstaters wearing red, gold, blue
Than even Central District do

(other side)
But if they're here they're as good as ours
They're more South Australian than the Adelaide Cows
As long as we still get to kick a Vic
It shows we've got a bigger ****

A Wonderful idea ... lets do it.

Big Bertha used 1987-1990 - it was 30m x 10m -- good luck getting 10m poles.

Then again Norths banner is always the highest so they might be the ones to use.

Prospect is also pretty central for most & i assume they have a place to build it given what they do during the finals.

Would love to see a special banner done
- to celebrate state footy
- to celebrate 150 years

- if large enough there is plenty we can do with it.

Anything I can do to help let me know.

The club badges from each team would look good on it too.

They could be set out across the top of the banner.

Actually I was one of only 3 that was there from start to finish, and there were supporters from the Eagles and westies aswell, it wasnt just Norwood and Sturt, most of the time was spend drinking though, it was a mad rush at the end, we only got it to the ground about 17 minutes before kick off, got myself a sweet park inside Adelaide Oval at the back of the Bradman Stand as a result though, even though my car had nothing to do with transporting the banner.

Went out on the banner in 06 and it was great to see all of the clubs supporters as one for the night.

If one gets made count the Port Cheer Squad in to help make it

Would rather we didn't bother with the AFL. This game hasn't anything to do with them, and let's not forget we don't have a state of origin game either. Let's just celebrate all those representing the SANFL and leave the game as a demonstration of what we are, not what the AFL isn't.

I did like the origin game mooted by the advertiser a year or so ago. SA might get beat, but when we're not playing a state game it would be good to show the other states that we've got all their good players! Plus it would possibly be a good promotional tool and way of getting people back who have left or even an entirely new group of fans.

Looks great! This match represents the true State rivalry, not a Victoria versus The Rest.

Even if only one side of that banner gets used it would kick arse. I like side 2 better.

The other side could just have like what the 2006 banner had... "WEST END MAJOR SPONSOR OF THE SANFL" and what not.

Speaking of the State Game, it got me thinking of which clubs would dominate with the amount of players represented. Then I thought, why not put in a suggestion for your team to take on the Vics. Mine will be a little Doggies biast, naturally. I will try hard not to though... !!!

F: Justin McConnell (Glenelg) Brant Chambers (Sturt) Chris Ladhams (North)

HF: Chris Gowans (Centrals) Clinton Alleway (North) Heath Younie (North)

C: Leigh Treeby (WWT) Jeremy Claytron (Port) James Gallagher (Norwood)

HB: Paul Thomas (C) (Centrals) Daniel Schell (Centrals) Mark Mackenzie (WWT)

B: Corey Ahchee (VC) (Port) Brett Zorzi (Norwood) Ben Nelson (DVC) (Sturt)

1st RUCK: Brad Dabrowski (WWT) James Gowans (Centrals) Brett Backwell (Glenelg)

BENCH: Craig Parry (South) Matt Slade (Centrals) Daniel Havelberg (Centrals) Luke Ivens (North)

Now I know theri will be plenty of arguments for and againsts ANY team that gets selected. I tried to have a representative from every club, but struggled some-what with West Adelaide.

I'm not 100% sure of the selection criteria, but I think the player has to have played at least 2 years in the SANFL before they can get selected. I could be wrong, it may now only be 1. I'm not quite sure how it goes with players that are only just out of the AFL and AFL listed rookies. That being said, there are plenty of names that would make it, if selection crieria allowed....

Ian Callinan (Centrals) James Allen (North) Ben Schwarze (WWT) (?) Sam Rudolph (Glenelg) (?)
Nathan Brown (West) Mathew Bode (Glenelg) Daniel Ward (North) Cameron Faulkner (Centrals) Jason Torney (South) Trent Sporn (North) Benjamin Kane (Glenelg) Simon McCormick (West)
Luke Crane (Sturt) Ryan Ferguson (West) Ian Perrie (Sturt) Ian Prendergast (South)

The list could go on and on. Will be interesting to see what others think...

Other players I ummed and ahhed over selection with were blokes like the following :

Luke Powell (WWT) Elijah Ware (Centrals) Scott McGlone (Sturt) Yves Sibenaler (Centrals)
Damien Cupido (West) Paul Sherwood (Glenelg) Matt Smith (South) Scott Borlace (Norwood)
Adam Switala (Centrals) Shane Biasci (Port) Justin Cicolella (WWT) Shannon Motlop (North)
Ben Warren (South) Jamie Vlatko (Norwood) Luke Cowan (Centrals) Jade Sheedy (Sturt)
Luke Jarrad (WWT)

Again, the list could go on and on and it will be interesting to see what others think...

GO U DOGGIES... ( & SA !! )
