A whole page on the 1978 Grand final and a big story about Timmy Weatherald spitting the dummy.

Enjoy.

OK I will read that with fond memories.
I recall John Wynne always wanted to meet Jack Oatey and could not wait until after the match. The one time old Jack was out foxed.

And once again our favourite sports journalist Jesper Fjeldstad proves that he achieved his command of the English language by careful tuition with migrant market gardeners, and his knowledge of SANFL history was learned more from front bars than from books.

To wit:

"Football Park was combustible as the players made their way to the 3/4 time huddles in the 1978 SANFL Grand Final. Sturt, the raging favourites, were 29 points up and had only lost one match in the season but the air was full of anticipation. Much of it was sparked by Norwood hardman John Wynne who had audaciously ruffled the Blues by crashing into their bench at the 18-minute mark of the final quarter".

So the air was full of anticipation at 3/4 time because of something that happened 18 minutes into the final term.

Shameful that Fjeldstad should masquerade so poorly as a fount of SANFL knowledge, but equally shameful that the editors should let this dribble be published in the first place.

Also had to laugh at Jesper's description of Phil Sanders as a ruckman... solid half back flanker maybe, a ruckman - definitely not!

Yeah, i seriously couldn't believe that no mention at all was made of THAT decision in favour of Gallagher. It would be the first thing that comes into the mind of most SANFL supporters when they think of the 78 grand final.

I guess its not as bad as page 50 showing that 84% were in favour of a new stadium and 33% not in favour
