Trial Week 2 Results.

Can anyone tell me how the trials went this weekend unfortunately with the change of times I couldn't make it to see the Eagles play this weekend. I'm interested in all results though.

Centrals lost to Sturt

Bays lost to the pies

Legs lost to the panthers.

I suppose some teams use the trials to play players in different positions,but surely you would expect most teams to have a decent crack and get some cohesion happening in the team.
I was surprised by the standard of the game between Norwood and South on friday night,It was actually of a good standard irrespective of it it being their first hit out for the season.
Both teams moved the ball well,and ran the game out in what were very warm conditions.
It is looking like a very interesting season,I think we will be in for the closest one in a while.

Was an excellent hit out and although we lost by a little under 4 goals many youngsters were given an opportunity to impress - Broadbent, Papps, Roberts, Pavich, Hicks Biagi, Couch, Rimmington all showing a real desire. Grocke was off early in the first quarter after a head high hit with concussion but should be OK.

A game which we almost pinched - as a trial gave the coaches a great chance to swap blokes around and see the options we can develop.

perhaps not pre-empting a loss, but most would be trying different things out this time of year and have no real concern about the result unless is was blatantly obvious that they were totally outplayed/outclassed.

This from cd pretty much sums up most (if not all) clubs attitudes towards trials

Why then is his younger brother still with the Eagles u19s then?

Buzz, I understand that Vinnie felt he would have a better chance at more league games at another club. He was our B & F for the Reserves last year. Vinnie goes with our best wishes, we are sorry to see him go but wouldnt stand in his way.

So WWT will beat the doggies tis week then Phil ? Well I hope so pretty sure no one in charge really cares about these trials .

What I will say is that teams (especially those coming off a successful 2007) will have a much more diverse range of goals for the trial games that just simply the result.

These goals can range from
- trying new players in match conditions
- trying exisiting players in different positions
- trying some differing structures and tactics
- ensuring best team makes it to Rd 1 at as much full strength as possible
- winning

Teams will also be at varying levels of fitness depending on whether the goal is to be at their absolute peak fitness
- now
- Round one
- later in the year.

I agree with every point you make. I think I read on another spread that Centrals lost ALL trials in 2004 and look at the year they went on to have. I think trials are critical to give those younger blokes from the twos a chance to play againsts bigger bodies at a quicker match pace. at least if you need them later in the year they have a little bit of experience, better than being thrown in the deep end. I think ALL temas would agree with this point...

The other thing it does is shows the versatility of certain players. Classic example of this is a certain Centrals player. I remember a few years ago Yves Sibenaler (Centrals FB) was playing as a forward in the twos. He was doing alright and was kicking a few goals then one pre-season he was then tried at CHB / FB in a league trial game and he has now gone on to be one of our best defenders. He even made Advertiser Team Of The Year as a defender. Same happened with Jeremy Aufderheide i reckon...

No doubt, the temas would rather be winning, especially as the season gets closer, but it's not the be all and end all.

Cant wait for Saturday at thebby, should be a good game...
