Eagles News #2 2008

Checkout the new feature on the club's website - with our new logo too - The weekly article by new recruit Tom Couch - every Wednesday - just look for the link "On the Couch with Tom"
Great news – we won our first game for the year in our internal trial last weekend.
It was an early start with the game at 9:00am but did give the boys the opportunity to get to Clipsal in the afternoon. It was a very good hit out – even a couple of minor injuries as the boys did put in. Plenty of running movement with good targets on both teams (Passador for one and Grocke for the other) Mackie, Couch, Biagi all showed promise – Rimmington, Dabrowski, Treeby, Powell also came under notice as did young Papps, Hill and Elliott. Pedler was also very solid at fullback. All played pretty well given there was much chopping and changing through the game. Interchanges were quite funny as guys swapped teams so interchanges saw much jumper swapping!
Next trial this Saturday at Thebarton against Sturt – normal times with Reserves at 11:15am and League at 2:00pm. Following week at Richmond against Westies and the week after back at Thebarton against Centrals.
Some folk have been asking why Eagles fans don’t have own forum. The forum that was on the unofficial site become a problem for the boys running the site with it being hit with much adult advertising links etc. The good news is that it is up and running again with improved security – check it out Eagles fans at the Eagles are Cool site.
I will put greater details re coming events on that site but here are some dates to put in your diaries:
Player Auction and Guernsey Presentation Saturday 15 March 7pm
Members Night March – date to be confirmed.
Super Sunday: 4 May & 27 July
Wine Nights: 11 April, 23 May, 29 August, 31 October
We had an excellent turn out of members at the AGM with a couple of very good ideas & suggestions put to the board plus lots of questions about matters relating to the club including our long term lease at Woodville Oval and redevelopment of the clubrooms, our use of Thebarton, financial projections etc.
Lets be clear with achieving our long term lease at Woodville Oval we are now reviewing facilities there. There should be new lights for training and a much better PA system in place shortly. Recovery facilities for players, office space, lift for members to the function room, even a museum are all to be discussed and costed.
Thebarton remains our summer home and as we cant have the oval at Woodville until the cricket boys win their Premiership we play some trials at Thebby (This week’s game against Sturt I believe was Sturt’s choice to play at Thebby for similar reasons)
3 Life memberships awarded at the AGM too - to long time board and committee member David Lang, to past player for Woodville and long time assistant coach Shane Reardon, and recently retired player Jon Floreani.
Jon's award was accepted by his father Aldo - also a life member - we think the first Father/Son combination to achieve this - Jon was an apolgy as he became a father on the afternoon of the AGM with the safe arrival of his first child a lovely new daughter and new junior member. Aldo's speech on behalf of Jon and as a new grandfather was terrific.
We now have 900 members signed up – hopefully by the end of this week we will break the 1000 – If you haven’t joined up or renewed yet please get on board ASAP – watch for details re the FREE Members Night – join on the night at the club.
