Football Supporters & Computers

Answer me this, why do Port Adelaide supporters not use computers?, a trend followed by Souths and Eagles supporters.

Port Adelaide Magpies forum is so unused from a club that has so many pasionates supporters "Why???"

Eagles & Souths are so very quiet as well Why??

Do Port supporters in general not have computers, does the ethnic mix of Eagles supporters point to this same reason and Souths, maybe like Westies are the least supported.

This is your own club forums linked by this site, Im sure we all nosey to hear whats going on and visit on occasions.

Be serious and have a joke but try and explain this, we at Westies with minimal supporters are very active on our forum

A lot of Port supporers use the THEPOWERFROMPORT website that caters for both Power and Magpies supporters.

The Eagles one i guess isn't that well known, some supporters probably gave up on a club forum after what happened with the last one. As for South, probably lack of number of supporters means theres not that many on their own forum, but there is still a significant number who go on here.

Hi Dash,

The Panthers last won a premiership 10 years before I was born, and last played in a Grand Final in 1979, since then the club has had its moments but has largely been mediocre at best. What this has resulted in, is the club failing to generate new supporters, most South supporters are people who barrack for the club because their parents did and it runs in the family. It sucks to say that I have lost count of the number of people I know that once barracked for South who are now with either Norwood or Port!

I think that coupled to the problem is the fact that interest and media coverage of the SANFL is declining, so the club is attempting to increase its market share in a shrinking pool of interested people. I dont want to rip on the club though, they lead the way in the SANFL along with Central in trying new things to promote the SANFL and to try and increase interest in the club in the area.

Central and Brisbane have both had a run of success and have a record number of supporters from their local areas as a result. At the end of the day for South to turn things around, the only thing that they can do is win a premiership or two - which has been the plan since 1964!

I suppose that is one of the reasons why I am so heavilly in favor of the appointment of Jack Cahill to the club and hope that the members of the club will do everything that they can to support him in what he is trying to do in order to set the club up to be successfull on the field.

The various boards of the SAFC do not have a good record in supporting the coach of the club over the players of the club, starting really with John Reid and Greg Anderson in more recent times being examples of coaches that then board did not stand behind when they should have, hopefully this time the club will make the hard decision and grit their teeth and stand behind Cahill and not make the same mistake over and over again!

I think you will also find with the South is that a larger portion of their already supporter base is in an elderly demographic traditionally not as involved in the internet.

Hence the dramatic steps taken last year to build the junior membership base before there are no members left.

Soujourner & Phil

If souths are aging what are westies, we have always had the west terrace cemetry and the airport as a recruitment and supporter base. Is there something else, men down south dont use computers, there must be a reason, u two and saintal are passionate, but it just cant be the age thing as at our westies site its very much alive even though its a struggle between the end of recruiting and trial matches.

Not sure why you would care about other teams' forums.

Maybe they simply have better things to do. :)

- your post re Westies is noted
- both clubs were certainly more active in junior membership campaigns last year, we had NAB Panther One, Westies had "first blood".

Exactly,

The reason i follow South is because my old man played for quite a period of time with the club, and that was the reason i started following South.

To be honest Dash, i dont visit the Panthers forum to often purely because of the reasons that you mentioned, it is very slow and quiet and i can easily discuss my issues on this website, not to mention i am living in Victoria at present so is hard to follow the club (With such little coverage) as passionately as those over there.

Dash - there has to be a host of reasons.

In some cases, club websites are poor and the rest of their communication is as well, so people tend to use the forums as a shared resource for information. (Do a browse of all nine club websites and you will see that there is a gulf between the best and the worst).
In other cases, membership numbers are arguably related to forum use.
Success brings interest as Sojourner said.
Some clubs have a link to their forum on their club sites, others do not.
Eagles forum withered but a new one has just been established. South's and Westies' forums were both established at about the same time - one has 70 users, the other about 200.
