A Suggestion for the SANFL

I notice there are 9 Gates at Football Park, considering that we have 9 SANFL clubs, why not allocate the naming rights for each gate to each of the SANFL clubs to name after the player whom they consider to have been the best player for the club.
Then go strike a bronze statue of each of those players and set them up inside the respective gates.
The idea being to do something positive to lift the atmosphere at Football Park and to commemorate the history of the SANFL and to use the opportunity to promote the SANFL to the junior fans of the various AFL sides that play there.
I dont think it would be hard either to find an appropriate spot to make sure that which ever side isnt represented out of Woodville West Torrens gets to have its own memorial spot.
Then go name the Members Stand the Barrie Robran stand which is something that should have been done years ago and I feel quite confident that the ground will soon start to see some atmosphere developing which is lacking at the moment.

For Central District I think that Wilbur Wilson would be awesome!

Wilbur would be great!
But I reckon there'd be a battle between him, Peter Vivian, John Platten, or from a more modern era The Twins or how about our legendary first premeirship captain Danny Hulm?

Good thinking Sojourner.
Sturt's gate would have to be represented by Len Fitzgerald or Paul Bagshaw eh?

Like it...Super Carey for the Glenelg gate IMO..
Put Grenville down for the North gate, but you'd have to widen the gate so people could squeeze past his statue...

I suggested this sort of thing to the 5aa mob a few years back except I thought the 2 members gates could be the Robran and Ebert gates and when kicking to the various ends you are kicking to the Farmer and say Evans ends.
I like the idea of each team being allocated a gate etc and would it help Footy Park if they got Dulux or another paint mob to sponsor the place and splash some of their product over the grey surrounds.

Apart from one game a year, most fans who go there don't care about the SANFL, so I reckon it would be pointless.

That's the point though, it's about heritage of our game. Just because Crows and Power supporters may not give a stuff about the SANFL, doesn't make it irrelevant.
Many people wouldn't give a stuff about Thomas Wills at the MCG, but his important role in our sport's history is recognised and that's very important.

Or, it could raise the profile of the SANFL just a little. Maybe even encourage someone to go have a look.
Hulm for the dogs gate, IMO - close race with Platten though.

Love the idea Sojo, here's my suggestions...
Eagles: Malcolm Blight (although he played for Woodville)
Port: Russell Ebert
North: Barrie Robran
South: Hayden Bunton
Centrals: John Platten
Glenelg: Peter Carey
Sturt: Peter Motley
Norwood: Gary McIntosh
West: Neil Kerley (although he did play for many clubs)
What do you lot reckon?

Hulm = club defining character, first premiership captain.
Not downplaying Plattens role in Central District history at all - he was my childhood hero. I just have an incredible amount of respect for the influence Hulm had in his years at the club.
