No SANFL coverage for 2008?

According to this bigfooty thread, ABC has dumped it's FTA coverage of sport, including state league telecasts. Is television coverage of the SANFL under threat or is this bloke mistaken?

regards,

REB

This is the late night replays of all the state league sports on the digital channel ABC 2.

Where we could see the VFL, WAFL, SANFL, NSW & QLD rugby each week - came on around 11:00pm

There were concerns about the ABC dropping these sports in the past. At the time the term "mum and dad in the crowd sports" was bandied about.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was on the agenda again. Let's hope it's only being dropped from ABC 2.

Lets hope enough people complain so that the footy stays on ABC2!

If they get rid of that then the next step is dropping the coverage altogether. Our taxes pay for the ABC and it should show programmes that are of interest to the sporting community as well as other community interest programmes.

Besides which watching the NTFL on ABC2 has been awesome this summer, it is a great leauge of footy to watch and the ABC should not be permitted to disband the showing of it!

Not happy Jan if this is the case.

It's the only chance interstaters like me get to see any SANFL on tv.

You can bet it's being driven by some Sydney-based executive wanker, who has NFI

According to one of the BigFooty posters, the ABC will only acknowledge a complaint if it's done by snail-mail - web and phone complaints are not acknowldeged. So if anyone wants to complain, write to

GPO Box 9994
Adelaide 5001

It'd be a bit hard to ignore email complaints if they got enough of 'em.

For the life of me I can't work out why they'd want to drop the coverage. It's not like they have anything better to put on at that hour, and it's not like it costs them anything since they have the various games all recorded from the weekend.

I for one enjoy watching the SANFL replays - not to mention the VFL and WAFL replays - and I shall be spitting chips if these are axed.

Agree with you totally about the e-mail complaints, but apparantly it's ABC policy, though it's much easier to click on 100 e-mail complaints and hit 'delete' than throw 100 letters in the bin.

What's more insulting about the decision is apparantly they're just going to have Late Night Legends continue - so they want to get rid of the latest round of football/rugby for things like the 1943 national cockroach racing championships...

I also enjoy the late-night coverage of the other interstate leagues, and will miss them this year. Hopefully enough of us voice our disapproval and they do a backflip.

Haven't you ever heard of the coachroach - it was like a cockroach, only it had two heads and wings. Back in the day they'd get up to 15 people in the local main street and watch hoards of coachroaches bolt down the street. The winner lived, the losers got eaten

Ok, so I'm not the most creative person in the world. I'll stop there (before I give The Simpons more ideas on developing Grandpa Simpson's character) - I've fixed up the spelling mistake. Thanks

For anyone interstate:
You can watch ABC live:
If you live in a regional area of your state or have very poor reception you can get an aurora card:

http://www.aurorasatellitetv.info/

You will also need a set top box that has a slot for a card capable of Irdeto 2 and a satellite dish.
Card $90
STB $40 - $ whatever you want to pay, all satellite dealers have a few old austar boxes lying around for about $40.
Satellite dish - many houses or garages have the sitting around and will quite often give to you for free or for around $20-30.

The card is a lifetime ONE OFF fee.
Of course if you don't fall within the legal area to purchase a card, http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_90223 you can always ask a mate who IS to give their postal details for you or go on a "trip" around Australia.
For those that live in the west http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_90222

Another blow for the State Leagues. I wouldn't have thought that this decision would save the ABC much money - which is always the objective.
