North Adelaide Football Club is pleased to advise that we will be playing a pre season match in the ACT on Saturday March 1, 2008. This fixture continues the success of the match in Darwin in 2006 which proved to be a great launching pad for that season.
The match shall take the form of a twilight fixture against a combination of the Eastlake and Queanbeyan sides at Queanbeyan, both of whom were finalists last year. Andrew Jarman has committed to taking the best available side to Canberra which provides a tremendous incentive to the players over the next few weeks. The itinerary includes a visit to the War Memorial, Recovery Session and Tour of the AIS Facilities.
The Club is not organising any travel packages for the trip. However if there are supporters wishing to make individual bookings we recommend supporting our preferred supplier:

This a good idea .But North will Cream them after watching the NSW/ACT Footy show the level is not really of high standard.
But thumbs up for taking the game interstate and getting North out there and in the limelight.
Cheers

I'll definitely be along although a pity its not WWT. Having lived in ACT for the past 2 years this is probably the only taste I will get of seeing some SANFL this year.
Even if Jars doesn't take the match too seriously they should absolutely smash the combined Eastlake/Queanbeyan side.
I remember watch the State match in 2006 ACT v Qld and the standard was barely above reserves grade footy. Some interesting players were playing that day who formerly played in the SANFL including Billy Neely who got about 30 touches. I think their captain that day was a former North Adelaide player (can't remember his name but he was a midfielder drafted from St Kilda) from about 4-5 years ago who played a season or two with them.
Should be good though

A small technicality... Queanbeyan sits dead-smack on the borders of NSW/ACT.

Yeah, but its regarded as NSW and most of it is across the border, they used to rake the money in at Quenbeyan when they had pokies in NSW but not the ACT.

Queanbeyan... good oval. Good place to play footy actually. A combined side of Queans and Easts will be a good test North if they actually play together. Meaning, they traditionally hate each others guts, so that part WILL be interesting. I personally can't see North getting done, but if Queans best and Easts best play well they could go close.
A few years back the ACTAFL played A1's in Amateurs - and I think went close to winning. I know that some of the best ACTAFL players didn't play because (I THINK) they didn't get paid. Some of the top players over there are on thousands a game.
I know that the top players in the ACTAFL are good enough to mix it with the SANFL, however the standard falls away after the top dozen in each side. I should know, I was one of the rest.

actually there's not much development e.g residential or business of queanbeyan in the ACT at all. it's mainly(98%) all in NSW

Yeah, well I agree having been there a couple of times, but I didn't want to be rude to Dogwatcher who said it was smack on the border so was diplomatic.
Would have been handier in the days prior to torrent downloads as I could have got my porn fix from Fyshwick.
Interesting point that a few might not be aware of is that the Canberra Raiders actually played out of Quenbeyan in their early years, yes the Canberra Raiders didn't play in Canberra!
(From memory the ground they played at was called something like Seiffert? The move to Bruce Stadium was right in the middle of two premierships 89/90)

Everyone should visit the war memorial in Canberra if you ever get the opportunity! - Leave aside at least a whole day to take it all in as there is a massive amount to see!

i played NSWAFL in 2007 - Queanbeyan and Eastlake are part of the ACT league, not the NSWAFL one.
There is a bit of talent in the ACT league, and a lot of money floating about. We played Ainslie in a trial last year and the oval and facilities were top notch.

Then you walk into their redeveloped 2 story 5 bars 3 restaurants and endless number of pokies for a drink after the game
