How has your team fared?

With all the AFL selctions over how has your club gone, are they in a better position or has this been a minor set-back?
From Centrals point of view losing Nathan Grima was a minor shock, as well as Alex Grima (Younger brother of Nathan) who was drafted by Hawthorn had been training with Dogs and was all but signed.
Have managed to keep Callinan, it which is an absolute diamond for Central. As well as Todd Grima not been drafted i would expect the Dogs to announce him as signed real soon and he will fill Nathan's spot beautifully.
Well done to Matt Westoff and James Moss who have both ended up at SA based AFL clubs. Overall i think the Dogs have come out of the Drafts even taking into account who could have left.

Alan Obst is off to The Kangaroos, as well.

Losing Michael Wundke will be a massive blow. Good luck to him at the Kangaroos though.

Hmm - our fwd line is looking decidely light on and shakey re big blokes now. By my reckoning that leaves Alleway and a doubtful Weatherley as our two big fwds in the absence of not having Nick Gill or Damon White available.
2 fwds and 1 ruckman. You have to wonder about the recruiting priorities at North in this off season???
Where's Perrie when you need him!

A serious question Rod,
will north now have enough room in the salary cap, to recruit a key forward, im presuming Wundke would not have been on a huge salary. I questioned their tactic of recruiting way to early a few weeks ago when they had signed all the new guys. I think North are one key forward short of being a premiership team now but that's presuming Gill plays all year at the crows.
Could the decision to recruit early bite them on the ass now as they will probably struggle to find a key forward up to his standard on a limited salary. Thinking that most decent forwards would be signed to a club already and there not being much left out there.

All SA Picks:
Pfeiffer - Carlton
Welsh - Bulldogs
Grima - Kangaroos
Salter - Port
Moss - Adelaide
Petrenko - Adelaide
White - Bulldogs
Walsh - Hawthorn
Obst - Kangaroos
Martin - Crows
Wundke - Kangaroos
Kangaroos went nuts over here.

Don't think i can argue with too many points you make. The priorities seem a little off the mark IMHO but we'll have to just wait and see how it turns out i guess.

Wonaemirri to Melbourne also. Listed as being from St Marys.
So for Norwood its Pfeiffer (Carlton), Wonaemirri (Melbourne)
Jesse Aish remains a Redleg.

Recruiting early had nothing to do with it. Recruiting smarter had everything to do with it.
It was obvious we'd always need a ruckman and a key backman.
North obviously thought we didnt ever need another forward the way we threw 2 away in the last year.
We will have a great mid field next year and Jars obviously thinks that is what will win us a flag. Time will tell.

My point Wedgie is that North obviously thought that Wundke was no realistic chance of being drafted (especially interstate as there hadn't been much interest shown for him over there) therefore they would be well positioned Key Forward wise.
He then gets surprsingly taken by the Kangaroos and there a KF short. IMHO Cental have the best recruiting policy in that they will court players and show a huge amount of interest in them before the Drafts but wait until after the draft to see how things have played out before signing.
For example, the dogs haven't gone gun-ho like the roosters, and have talked to a variety of midfielders and key position palyers, now that we have lost Obst and Grima we still have plenty of salary to replace them, and we can tell the midfield players we had been looking at replace to Callinan, bye bye. Imagine if we had got in early to replace Callinan because we were worried about him leaving, we would now be stranded with no key position players and no salary to make a move.
Patience is still the key to recruting IMHO, how can you recruit when you don't exactly know what you have like the roosters did?

Suits Norwood fine, all we want are midfielders.

North wouldn't have thought that at all, everyones known for 2 years that Wundkke is a chance at being drafted. My point is that things are no different now to a month ago when a CHB and a ruck were our priorities.
If North waited until today to start recruiting we'd be lucky to pick up a Noarlunga B grade player as all decent players are signed by now.
A professional club will have a contingency plan for any of their players going that have nominated for the draft now.
Itd be stupid and unprofressional to only start recruiting now.

I didn't say start now, i believe that you talk to players early as early as possible but agree terms and sign them on the basis of what happens at the draft.
Name the last recruit Central have signed before the drafts have taken place. There's not to many but other Noarlunga B graders they have signed after the draft include, N.Grima, H.Lawry, I.Callinan, S.Arnott, and the list goes on. There now all premiership players now as well, not to bad recruiting IMHO.
My point is that North have gone and signed all these players and they DIDN'T know exactly which players they have left. I think Norths recruiting tactics this off season have been like the little kid who can't sleep on Christmas Eve he gets up early to open his presents, short term glory but his only dissapointed the next day when he has nothing left to open (and yes im talking from experience.)

Do you agree Wedgie,
1/ North are probably a key forward short at the moment (especially if they dont' see much of Gill or White, real possibiltity)
2/ They will struggle to sign a quality key forward now, given they wouldn't have much salary cap left and that most decent forwards would have spoken to clubs before the draft and will now sign with them in the next couple of days.

Richards didn't go anywhere today and would be a good signing for your mob Wedgie, BP, et al, so not all hope lost at filling that position nicely.

Constance, with what salary cap room, the brown paper bag?

I think Norths two priorities are CHB and Ruck and that hasn't changed.
I would agree a key forward is our 3rd prority and that hasn't changed.
Recruiting has changed significantly in recent years.
Theres no use in showing interst in Ward, Clarke, O'Brien or Archard as they would have signed elsewhere.
Norths (and other clubs too) mistake is not recruiting too early its not recruiting smarter.
