SANFL ANNOUNCES KEY APPOINTMENTS
The SANFL has today announced two high profile appointments to key Chairmanship roles.
Mr Dion McCaffrie has been appointed to the position of Chairman of the SANFL Football
Development Foundation following the retirement of Mr John Halbert MBE who has served for
36 years on the Foundation and has been Chairman since 1993.
Mr McCaffrie has been a member of the SA Football Commission since 2004 following an 11 year
period of service as an SANFL Director.
SANFL Executive Commissioner Leigh Whicker said “John Halbert’s contribution to the Football
Development Foundation cannot be understated. The successes we are seeing in the drafting of
young SANFL players into AFL ranks and the strong focus on skill development underpinning all of
our football development programs have been enhanced by John’s leadership. We look forward
with great anticipation to the next phase under the leadership of Dion McCaffrie who has great
knowledge and passion for football development and the continual improvement of our efforts in
this area”.
After 27 years of service as Commissioner for Country & Metropolitan Football the Hon Justice
Kevin Duggan AM has elected to step aside from this position. His replacement will be Chairman
of the Affiliated Leagues Council. SANFL Commissioner David Shipway was the unanimous
choice for this role by his peers on the SANFL Commission.
SANFL Executive Commissioner Leigh Whicker said “Kevin Duggan has made an immense
contribution to the SANFL and its Affiliated Leagues, including the development of the Affiliated
Leagues Constitution. He was instrumental in developing the Australian Country Football
Championships and there is no question that his leadership was a major factor in unifying Country
Leagues. In Commissioner David Shipway the League has been extremely fortunate to be able to
make an appointment that will be enthusiastically embraced throughout the Affiliated Leagues.
David has worked tirelessly on behalf of Country & Metropolitan Football in his role as an SANFL
Commissioner and has the respect of all key stakeholders because of this”.

The League thanks John Halbert and Justice Kevin Duggan for their continued service and long
serving dedication to their respective committee’s over the years. The League also wishes Dion
McCaffrie and David Shipway the very best and offers full support of their recent appointments.
The SA Football Commission will hold their Annual General Meeting next Monday evening with
further appointments and Life Memberships to be announced.

You know members elect the Committee and the Committe hires (and fires) the Administration. Become a member and get active if you don't like whats going on.
