Saturday Afternoon is North Footy - 2008 Fixture Details

Postby Wedgie » Thu Nov 15, 2007 6:31 pm

This from nafc.com.au, great to see all home games on Saturday afternoon like they should be:

2008 SANFL Program - Draft

Whilst the Official Program will not be released until early December, we can advise members of key dates and features:

* 10 Home Games at Prospect
* ALL our home matches for the 2008 season are on Saturday afternoons

The Club submitted that this is our preferred schedule for SANFL footy. It does mean that we will have direct clash with one Crows and one Power match.

Round 1: is at Prospect against the Eagles on Saturday 29 March.

Byes:

* Round 2 - April 5
* State Match - May 31
* Round 17 - July 26 GALA DINNER
* Round 22 - August 30

Anzac Day Clash: Friday April 25 - Centrals at Elizabeth, being the premiers, won the right to host the grand final replay.

Sunday Football: We are totally at the mercy of the home club as to when we play. This year we play Port, Glenelg, Eagles and South three time to make up our 20 matches. A previous poll question on the web site revealed a strong preference for Saturday afternoon football at Prospect.

The 2008 program now provides a wonderful opportunity for Rooster fans to follow up by attending.

Only gripe is playing Central at Elizabeth for Anzac Day as it'll be the first Anzac Day game that's not as "special" not being played at a neutral venue, would have loved to play at Thebby or Adelaide (which is unavailable) but on the bright side it means we wont have to play out there at night so I'll be there and it is Central's home game so its the only way the SANFL could have gone realistically. We'd waited this long to play in one and feel a bit jipped but I think after all Central's premierships they deserve an Anzac Day game out there, works a treat next year falling on a Friday and should give a chance for a few out there to get along.

With the draw kicking off the week after Easter our discussion re Good Friday Football goes flying out the window! :lol:

Good work to North for doing what their supporters like (sat arvos). I am guessing GFC is one of the clubs that pushed for the Sunday's! :evil: Its a shame I can't just buy a away season ticket for next season.

Yes, its time to stop scheduling around the AFL it just makes things worse IMO

Pick the times that suit your fans the best and stick with it

I agree with you wedgie, i think the anzac day game should've been played at thebarton oval like it was this year. It is a very special day and playing at elizabeth oval will just feel like a normal minor round game.

troy we push for sundays for a reason- more people attend so therefore that would suggets that more supporters prefer sunday games.

The figures aren't conclusive on that MayZ.

True point Centurion, theoretically it wasn't at a 'neutral' ground this season was it?

I reckon I'll be able to go to that Anzac Day game. You beauty!

The weekend of the State Match is not too bad, the Crows are at home on Friday night and the Power are away on the Sunday. Two for the price of one!

Yes that's what I don't understand about this debate. Was Thebarton intended to be a nuetral ground for Anzac day and their home ground whenever else it was used :?

I just figured they got a home game because their were reigning premiers so the same works for Centrals next season

If Adelaide Oval is unavailable then it has to be at someone's home ground

I wasn't meaning to sound militant :D

I don't mean stuff the AFL .... just mean that I don't think crowds are improved by scheduling away from Crows or Power games if that new time doesn't suit those people who would actually make the effort to attend.

I think because Adelaide Oval wasn't available and Eagles were premiers, they got the choice. Same as Central this year I guess.
