Footy on the Telly - free to air and current season

Postby cd » Sun Nov 11, 2007 9:58 pm

Had a very enjoyable couple of hours watching the ABC coverage of the NTFL on Saturday afternoon. Was St Marys v Palmerston. A good standard - lots of running and some great goals.

What was really interesting was it was a night game that the ABC had taped and then was replayed during the day. If they do it in Darwin the maybe could do in Adelaide?

Tune in to watch each Saturday afternoon from about 2:30/2:45 on ABC 2. - need the set top box to get the digital channel. No Ads and great footy from the Territory.

Foxtel subscribers also get ABC2, I watched the Tigers play the Wanderers a week ago and that was a reasonable game!

Given that light travels at about 3x10^8 metres per second, and about 16 hours would elapse between Friday night and Saturday arvo, all the ABC had to do is position the camera about 1.7*10^10 kilometres away (1.8*10^-3 light years, tiny by astronomical standards) in order to record the match the next day.

The Voyager 1 probe is currently about 1.5*10^10 from the Earth. So if the ABC had planted a video camera aboard Voyager when it was launched in 1977, and they didn't mind starting a little earlier than usual (say quarter past 12), then the ABC could easily have taped the match the next day.

Image resolution might be a problem, however

The Blake's Seven avatar really gives it away.

PS Servalan was hot though.
