Power sponsorship of T'Birds

Postby HeartBeatsTrue » Thu Nov 01, 2007 10:25 am

I know this probably should not go on an SANFL forum,

But is the money the Power is using to sponsor the Thunderbirds come out of the money that eventually gets distributed to SANFL clubs?

One would hope not - The SANFL clubs have subsidised the power for too long - we need returns back to keep the sanfl clubs strong

Yes, the power did this only to avoid having to pay the SANFL money.

It actually is trying desperately to increase it's level of support, which is the main reason they have yet to post the big profit numbers the crows have managed each year. This is an attempt to appeal to a new group of people and they should be congratulated for trying something new, not criticised for it. I hate the power and wish them the very least in success but I think they deserve some credit for trying something new.

BTW, I like the new thunderbirds uniforms!

Its not a new idea, Central Districts have been sponsoring the Harlequin Netball Club in the state league comp for a few years,

The girls share the use of the club, and have their after match presentations back at the club with the footballers where possible.

Country footy clubs have had netball clubs aligned to them for years also, but I think the sponsorship of the T-Birds by the Power is at a whole new level - to the point where uniforms change indicates a massive deal to the T-Birds.

This is very different to the CD or a country team sponsoring a local netball team.

So hypothetically if the Crows decide to sponsor the 36ers, will there be even less money distributed to SANFL clubs.

Seems to me the Crows are "sponsoring" the SANFL, which provides resource to both SA AFL clubs. The Power is spending cash on a netball team because thats where it will be more beneficial to them, as they can gain more support, which is fair enough.

What isnt fair is the SANFL clubs provide a service for the Power, and get little or bugger all in return. If the SANFL cannot force the Power to cough up (ie set a minimum amount) for SANFL clubs, then we'll never see any decent contribution from the PAPS in the future.

North shared clubrooms with a netball team for one season, didn't mind it, even though their presos took up time there was some nice eye candy.

Back to the main subject at hand, shouldn't Port be putting 200k into football instead of netball? Even if they did play like a mob of netballers against men on Grand Final Day. 119pts wasn't it?

It has a double negative impact, 1) money that should be going to footy is going to another sport, 2) many people like myself that followed the Thunderbirds for many years will now be looking for a new team.

The SANFL is gonna stick it to em and not allow any Power listed player to play in the SANFL.

Wouldnt that be sweet if it happened. The Power will need to align itself with a VFL club and end up costing them more, or align itself with an Amatuer League club, say Port District.

Just wonder how it sits with a couple of the Thunderbird players that have been linked romantically with Crows players, know they would be happy for the co-sponsorship etc but be a great stir for them one would think

Im lead to believe that through the miracles of creative accounting, the Crows aren't paying the full return to the SANFL clubs either

I really can only see a membership BOOM coming out of this for the Port Adelaide Power.

How many NETBALLers are their in South Australia?

You might have to lift your game Crows....
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

whats the point..I think its a shocking decision. The sanfl dividend must be the first priority for any of Ports finances....Membership boom  I would think not !What percentage of players in suburban /indoor/country competitions would have ever seen a T'Birds game or even know where they are on the ladder at any time let alone watched them on tv. yes netball is big in playing numbers but if a netball sponsorship any sort of investment for a sponsor they wouldn't have been playing for peanuts for the last 10 years.

As for the Crows getting behind the 36ers ...someone has to .Since they have not been the only government funded team in the competition the slide has been more than obvious.

evidence..............? 1800cheapshot. I find this very hard to believe as the SANFL would have safeguards in place in case by some miracle the Crows were struggling financially .I would think they have representation on boards etc and probably share the same autitors(will happily stand corrected by someone with the facts as I admit to having no idea). I am no Crows fan at all but thought this call very unfair .

Well my 2 daughters are big Thunderbird Fans and go to every home game, oh sorry I should say used to, they now refuse because of the change, evidently it has been a huge topic at their schools for the last couple of days and the kids are not impressed, kids = adults which = bums on seats at both sports, be interested to see where this may lead
