2008 Pre Season

I don't know about other supporters, but I would love to see something like the Foundation Cup Return just to add something to Pre Season.
Surely it wouldn't be too hard to come up with some sort of comp where either 3 groups of 3 or two groups (either one 4 and one 5 or two groups of 5 with maybe a country team brought in). This would work something like:

3 groups of 3
Two matches each with top team to go through to Semi Finals and best 2nd placed team makes the 4th spot = 2 Semi Finals, Final

or

2 Groups
Top two for Semi Finals - 1st place vs 2nd place
Two Winners in Final

Venues Available - Parade (Night), Elizabeth (Night), Richmond, Noarlunga, Thebarton (if lights are good enough), Alberton, other clubs can use country zones.
Just an idea Interested to hear other supporters thoughts.

Cheers
CB

A lot of people on here would like something like what you posted, but can't see it being used during the up coming pre-season as it is a little close.

I think a preseason competition is a waste of resources. Let the clubs play trial matches, but the season starts when there's premiership points as far as I'm concerned, and I'd be annoyed if I was an official who had to ut in more for a mickey mouse comp. Plus I don't think the interest and therefore revenue would be enough to warrant any financial input by the SANFL.

Hey, it might give the other 8 clubs besides the Dogs a chance of winning something at League Level!

Yeah, we tied with you in the first year and won it outright in the 2nd year.
Might go back to the Dogs this year as I think our crowd & members figures might keep us out of the picture this year.
Maybe Sturt?

This pre-season comp discussion was brought up early this year, here was my idea for a pre-season comp. Although I doubt it will ever happen...

HeartBeatsTrue 8/1/07 wrote:Its always difficult the have a pre-season comp when you dont have 8 or 16 teams.

An idea is to have an invitational side, from one of the amatuer or country leagues to be a 10th team. Or an NTFL side...

Round 1 (10 teams)
Grand finalists play off in a grudge match ala EPL charity sheild. Loser does not get eliminated, but both teams' score may factor later in the comp.
The other 8 teams play off with the 4 losers eliminated.

Round 2 (6 teams)
The 4 winners and the Grand Finalists play off in 3 matches.

Round 3 (4 teams)
The 3 winners and the loser that has scored the most goals in their matches play off. This will encourage entertaining, high scoring games.

Round 4 (2 teams)
The 2 winners play off for the pre-season cup.

To determine who plays who in 1st 3 weeks, teams are drawn out of a hat. The GF hosted by the team scoring most goals.
