The AFL Draw- How it impacts the SANFL

May seem odd this is on the SANFL board, but has anyone seen the AFL Draw?

I'm not sure about Port but Adelaide have a lot of Saturday afternoon games next year, including 4 at AAMI.

This can't be a good thing for SANFL crowd numbers. :?

The raw numbers are:
Port has three Saturday afternoon games at home and three Saturday afternoons away.
Adelaide has four Saturday afternoon games at home and four Saturday afternoons away.

As such, 14 Saturday afternoons in 24 weeks (two byes) where a match is either at AAMI or coming into the state on tv.

Well that's quite a few, way more than this year.

Will have a huge impact on programming for the SANFL I reckon - lots of night games and Sundays coming up I would think.

Would love to know why it has increased so much, particularly when the talk is about low AFL crowds at AAMI on Saturday afternoons.

I'm sure West Lakes traders will be pleased as well.

seems fri night, sat night and sunday games are on the cards.

I just think the SANFL should play mostly sat arvo's regardless of the AFL.

x2. Saturday arvo is clearly the best time slot, they should look to schedule as many as possible regardless of the AFL. Except for finals of course, which I shouldn't get started on.

Probably nil effect, the Port bandwagoners were dropping off the wagon last year - re-attaching the velcro teal to the black and white.

The diehards will still attend, personally I couldn't care when Port Power play.

When does the SANFL release its 2008 fixture?

I believe they have a framework in place already, which is now adapted around the AFL fixture where applicable.

The release is usually within a week or 2 from this point - IIRC.

Are you kidding me? What do you want no one to attend the SANFL games those weekends.

well ill be at a game, so there wont be no-one there, and the few people that agree will also be there

i dont think the AFL really takes that much away from the SANFL.

maybe the eagles should hope to program matches away from the AFL to try and get a crowd.

I thought similar until the Centrals/Sturt night game at Elizabeth late this season. Really disappointing crowd in the end and I reckon if it were not against a crows game would have got an extra 4,000 through the gate.

I'm sure there are plenty of examples for all teams.

Well the Power games will only impact Port and the teams that they will play. Adelaide games will impact almost every team in the league, as there is usually a game on Saturday for TV.

No doubt the Crows playing at the same time has a large effect on SANFL crowds. I don't see why the Crows need to be programmed on a Saturday afternoon at all, but that would involve the AFL actually giving a stuff about the effect it has on the SANFL traditional Saturday afternoon timeslot. Haven't the Crows and Power even requested not to play home games on a Saturday arvo?

The SANFL has to avoid competing against the Crows as much as possible unfortunately. Even though personally I'd be happy to go watch the Eagles every Saturday afternoon during the winter.

Get off the Eagles poor crowd attendance bandwagon MT. Your kidding yourself if you don't think the AFL fixturing will effect the SANFL crowds. I don't think it will effect the eagles too much but it will definately effect the competition as a whole.

Some of the EAGLEs fans will be affected not me by the way.But judging by the crows colours etc worn at all SANFL games all the teams will be affected.

AFL games and TV games impact on different clubs differently, not putting any clubs down but North don't seem to be impacted by TV and Crows games as much as some other clubs are.
