Adelaide Oval Home Games

I was pretty shocked to see on another thread that Sturt maybe looking to move there home games back to Adelaide Oval from 2009.

IMO we have really started to find our feet back @ Unley with only dropping 1 game there this year. Adelaide Oval is great to watch footy @ but to me it is probably a neutral ground now and I feel we will be giving away any home ground advantage in the future.

Please stay @ Unley Blue Boys !!!

Home ground advantage mean squat in today's footy.

Perhaps I'm only looking at it from a Norwood supporter's objective. :(

Won't happen mate, at least not in the medium term. Club already has option to extend the lease with the council and I would be certain this will happen.

Sturt will remain at Oxford Tce for the forseeable future.

With 6 wins out of 7 at Unley and 0 from 4 at Adelaide this season gone, why would they want to move??

Rumour has it that North's board wants to move all but 2 games (West & South) to Adelaide too despite a similar project failing last year.
Other rumour as I briefly metioned on another thread is that due to the possible unavailablity of Adelaide Oval next year and the SANFL not being impressed with Thebby that next years ANZAC day match may be at Elizabeth Oval.
Bollocks to both proposals I say.

Don't do it unless their is a financial sweetener from the SACA which I doubt. The SACA care about one thing only and thats the SACA.

If you leave Prospect and Unley , the councils won't let you back.

More importantly for North , what do you do with your clubrooms if you leave Prospect? As they are part of the ground.

Too much history for North and Sturt to throw away. The only place I can see it being a benifit is from reducing cost in maintaing assets and not paying the relevant councils leases.

Wedgie, any idea of why it may be unavailable?

I also got a bit worried when I read this topic mentioned in another thread.
First time we moved to Adelaide was a disaster, had one good season and then the darkest 8 years ever experienced by a SANFL club, almost killed us. I know there were many other factors that contributed to that era, but the relationship between Adelaide as Sturt's home ground and the word failure are pretty strong.
There would need to be some very good reasons for it to happen.

I don't think you Sturt fans should get too comfortable - North have a lease with the Propsect council but that won't stop them looking at moving games to AO and Sturt have been mentioned as also looking at a move to AO from 2009 onwards.

So you are saying that North are talking about it, and their news is that Sturt may be talking about it too?

North are definately looking at it but nothing official has come out I suspect becasue there will be a huge member back lash and Sturt were definately mentioned alos from 2009 due to on going issues with council on a range of matters. My info come from the top and is 100 percent on the money as to this date. What happens in the future is up to what sort of deal the SACA offer, The SANFL agreeing but most important the members of both clubs agreeing. If it were up to North members it will not happen and I suspect Sturt will be the same.

It suprises me that Sturt would revisit the AO scenario as last time it almost completely cut off Unley as a home ground and as it is, now it is half a parkland and the fear for North fans is that the same will happen to Prospect and we will lose some of our soul, history and identity by not playing at Prospect.

Does it need to go to the members BPBRB? I would have thought this was a "club business" issue and can be done by the board.

If the members disagree then the board would be putting their necks on the line by proceeding, naturally, but that would be their decision wouldn't it?

Hey Drebs

Is it a case of the clubs chasin the SACA or the SACA chasin the clubs ???

From what I understand, it is SACA doing the chasing. Maybe if they concentrated on it's "core business" ie managing SA Cricket properly, we would not be such a laughing stock, but I digress.

Having said all that, Adelaide Oval needs to hold more money spinning events to justify it's existence. Hence the constant lobbying for AFL matches etc to be held there.

I posted something in relation to this about three or four months back after speaking to a person who had seen the plans for the Adelaide Oval upgrade.

This person told me that SACA were trying to lure Sturt with the promise of access to the most up to date training facilities in SA.

I would hate to see Sturt stop playing at Unley after so many people fought so long and hard to get us back there. Having said that, if we were to play 3 or four of our home games at Adelaide Oval each year I would not be against it.

Leaving your home ground = competitive suicide.

As much as we may all dislike certain "away" trips around the league ... it is the very heart, soul and fabric of the game.

The AFL has lost so much since dismissing Princes Park, Windy Hill, Victoria Park etc ..

Admittedly, they had a greater need with bigger crowds needing bigger stadiums .. we do not have that need.

Adelaide Oval should be used more but as a neutral venue only.

MST, out of all posts regarding SFC on this thread, you are closest to the mark.

The Mt Barker Oval is having funds poured into its upgrade by the local council. Sturt could do better if they want to transfer games to go into their own area rather than Adelaide Oval as it would go some way to encouraging people to go to the game that maybe would not ordinarally, as well as strengthening ties between the club and the feeder clubs in the area.

As far as Adelaide Oval games go, I was under the impression that the SACA have been looking towards the Port Adelaide Magpies as a potential tenant?
