One pre-season weekend it could be the SANFL lightning Carnival

Played at Norwood Oval, Day 1 Starting at 10.00am - 11pm ($2.00 Entry)

Format 9 sides plus the NT or Tas are invited to play in this rare event, if both knock back the invitation you could invite the SAAFL Under 23 Side who played west preseason and did quite well.

Game Format 2 X 10 min halves plus time on. Sides must sub 10 players at half time, this uses their full squads over the two day carnival, use of 17's & 19's as well could be used in a squad of 50 & promoted. West End or who eva could all sponsor, prizemoney graduated down from 1-10, all clubs selling club gear with booths bothdays, make it a real SANFL carnival and showcasing new recruits, kids etc

They did something similar just over a decade ago at Wayville but it might have been 9 a side, North won it, I was there for the whole day but there was virtually no interest from the clubs or spectators, complete failure and waste of time.

Question: Would you go?, id have a look, especially if the league promoted it, make the money worthwhile. Wifes, girlfirends, die hard supporters you could peak at 5000,

Probably not, maybe if we incorporated some sort of SAFooty social day into it.
No league players would play, the clubs would hate the idea, much better idea would be to have a more formalised preseason than we do now similar to the old Foundation Cup. Bigger crowds, more club involvement and possibly some press exposure.

In regard to your idea imagine if it was over 40 each day, you'd be lucky to get family and friends to watch the fringe junior players that the clubs would play.

I like the idea of inviting interstate clubs for normal sort of games, I'd go watch Geelong's VFL side thrash Central or watch North Adelaide thrash Subiaco. ;)
RD's brought this up before, perhaps incorporate it in with the AFLs pre season tourney.

Wedgie, we all know this is a better and a real football purist product, get the chardonay drinking Crow supporters & Draught drinking power supporters there that have never been to a SANFL game, heard a crowd of 5000 REAL supporters and they may switch codes.

Not wayville but hate to say it Norwood would be the ideal venue, went and saw the VFL years ago and they were great night games even though we got thrashed most times. SA sides that is

The AFL had a similar 'Lightning Carnival' concept back in their Centenary Year of 1996...
The MIGHTY BOMBERS won!

Why not use Adelaide Oval. The Redbacks won't be playing finals.
