i saw the picture of the chimney & thinks it looks ordinary & i'd suggest that the north part should be predominately red with white vees as to me it seems to be all one 'thing' !!

i'd suggest it is the first time they got it wrong

Call me paranoid but I think it is token effort by Lion Nathan and all part of their strategy to remove the old links to the SA Brewery and replace with their stock standard Qld and NSW lines XXXX and Tooheys. Surruptitiously they are trying to promote Tooheys New in their corporate marketing and at major sporting events to increase the market share of Tooheys New compared to Draught.

In teh past the chimney was painted in the design of the teams uniform (the 1973 Brewery trophy at the GFC has the Black and Gold sash top, The North part is Red with white Vs around the base). Now to obviously save costs they just put hooped bands around the Chimney.

Poor form IMHO

I went past it today and I don’t like it at all!
Why wasn’t the V underneath to make it look like North? It’s almost like the tried to paint centrals colours twice but forgot the blue.
No offence north supporters, but if I followed north I would be disappointed :(

Be happy to see red and blue anywhere up there.

Do the players still rock up to pull the tarps off, after the paint job is done, or is that long gone too since I left SA? Still got my '78 scrap book with Danny Jenkins and David Armour photo-ed in the News pulling on the ropes. Think they were only two blokes who could stand on the Tuesday after three days on it.

I have to agree it looks carp. Drove past it yesterday lunchtime after it had all finished with centrals supporters waiting for the bus reminded me to look up.

It should have been the white V or at worst the old candy stripes to distinguish the two club strips

It has become more forMALised between the 13 years I went to it. As I recall, and I assume it was like that before, there was just a few speeches made next to the spot where the ropes are pulled, then it is unveilled.

Now, the speeches and presentations are done in the courtyard area, then the players head around to the rope pulling area to do it.

As it wasnt a public holiday Monday, the painters had to work at night - as they were brewing during the day on the Monday, making the chimney unavailable at that time. Apparently it was rushed more than they would like and a repaint is being considered to better distinguish the 2 teams. So I heard at the ceremony anyway.

Personally, I would have thought they could easily plan the 2 possibilities prior to the game and know that one looks poor.

Thankyou to the painters for their efforts.

However, as I wrote on cdfc.info,

I feel, for maximum effect, blue should be our only colour that meets North's colours (win or lose) and always with a contrasting pattern - IMAO of course.

..........

I think it's fair to point out that over two weeks ago only four different team combinations were possible for the chimney, narrowing to two last week. In all, I would have thought a reasonable period in which to finalise the best possible colour scheme ready to be unveiled on the day by those who so richly deserved it.

I apologise if I sound unappreciative or ungrateful of the time, the efforts or the generosity of a long standing sponsor of SA footy - nor the efforts of all that others that make this event possible.

In any case, it's always a privelege to be celebrating with (and as a result of the efforts of) players, coaching and training staff, administrative and directive staff (as well as fellow supporters) of this footy club forging traditions of its own.

Mrs StrayDog and I do indeed feel very lucky that our young family can, so often, be part of an occasion that long term supporters of most other SANFL clubs have experienced so rarely - if at all.

Sorry, I should clarify - it wasn't an offical of the brewery who told me, but it was someone who should know.

At least go with the candy stripes to distinguish the two.

I agree looks crappy, should have Norfs candy strips. But as stated SAB doesn't have to do this traditional thing so I will put up with it. (I can't remember the last time I drove past it anyway!!)

For what it is worth - on my avatar is how the dogs colours were painted last year and personally think should have been that way again this year - a personal opinion - but doesnt really matter if your colours are top of the chimney!!

If Central's colours where painted in the same order as lasy year I doubt the would have been a problem with Norths Red & White painted as it has been.. Not sure about North having the V's when runner up, when we go top it would be my preference though.
