with lonie not wanting too & westhoff not allowed too, will sanfl clubs get together & decide to play all afl players in the reserves competition as to not interere with their league teams preparations

i'm starting to think this is what should happen & have a feeling it could happen in the future

Geelong have their own side in the VFL, look at the Cats success

Collingwood will next year have their own side in the VFL.....

The thing I like about the concept, it allows a club to develop a player in a certain position, winning does not become the main criteria, player development does.....

For example, the Crows could play Sellar week in / week out as a key forward, not be influenced by the scoreboard, the kid would have his good and bad games, however, he would get plenty of game time in the position of the club choice to learn his trade

Either a Crows reserves side or play all the AFL players in the reserves and be done with it

If they get drafted to any of the other 14 teams they are lost to the SANFL anyway - maybe we just need to accept it and make the best of it.

I reckon it wont be long and a club will pass on each of their mini draft choices!

What is clear is that the current system has broken down and something needs to be done to fix it.

What the SANFL can do is put an end to mid season trading which only serves to make the SANFL look unproffessional. No AFL player gets to switch clubs during the season, so why do AFL listed players get to switch SANFL clubs during the season? The sooner an end is put to that practice the better off the SANFL will be, if that comprimises the needs of an AFL listed player like Luke Jericho for example that is just too bad......

I don't want some "big head" AFL wanna be "sook" come in my side and not follow team rules or have to heart for the club. Just look at us!!!

Although we have not passed in our mini-draft choices, we have set a precedent of having many of our AFL players soon cleared to other SANFL teams. Add that to the fact that we rarely get a mini-draft choice and you will see how we overcome our AFL problem. We will only retain AFL players who either started with Central or who are committed to the Central cause!

The players should be picked on merit and merit alone.
There is no way these AFL guys should be pigeon holed into reserves football, thats not going to be good for them at all as the standard between even 2s and league is a jump, so they will be so far off the pace if picked for AFL duties that they will be back in the SANFL before they know it.

There has to be a better way to get these guys committed to the local clubs cause, but they spend one night a week at the club so they dont really know anyone at there SANFL club to develop good mateship and pride in the jumper.

Tough one to answer, but with the issues of this year it needs to be addressed.

IMO. Glenelg had Willits moved due to him being dropped to the Ressies (as well as playing him down back), but apart from that our regular AFL players in Mahoney, Logan & Douglas (not Sellar as he is a Bays man anyhow), those three blokes always put in and contribute. If anyone can dispute Douggies passion in the win over Sturt in the Elimination final I'd be damned.
Also when Ryan was at the Bay, if he played for Port, he would always come out to the club and watch the Tigers run around. So I feel for the big man as Port have treated him harshly.

Is it my imagination or do the AFL listed players who put in at SANFL level usually go on and have a successful AFL career?
