Would you pick Wintle?

Postby Shirtfront » Thu Oct 04, 2007 2:29 pm

He is apparently fit, leader of the club and would love to play and maybe even finish his career in a GF. Do you pick him? I'm saying yes.

If fit, yes
If unfit, no.

The strike rate of teams winning premierships (except Central) without their regular captain or leader is pretty high. Eagles 2006, Sturt 2002, Norwood 1997, (Power 2004).

If he's fit and it seems he is I'd pick him, but finding a player to drop for him would be a very difficult thing to do.

I do hope that Wintle plays. Not only does he deserve to, but it would mean the curse of us losing Grand Finals to teams with their captain out injured will not apply! :D

I don't think you can pick any player for a Grand Final on a very limited preparation.

A great leader, a great bloke but as Punk said not enough preparation or even recent match hardness and he would be a real risk. So No, I wouldn't pick him but it ain't up to us is it?

I wouldn't pick him as he plays for North and it's too late in the season for a clearance. Don't want to upset the interchange stewards.

My view:
Wintle IN (definitely - has a good record of coming straight back in amd smashing them)
Hart to FB
Gallman to CHB
Wintle to HB
McIntyre (ufortunate but that's footy)

wouldn't play him and I think you will find that he knows himself that he is not match fit and will probably declare himself unavailable, that's just the kind of leader and person he is

Don't think you could pick him, with no game preparation, and the amount of interest this is attracting, he's going to be tested out, either physically early or his opponent will be given instructions to run him around.

Hmm 12 months ago Colville was trying to press his case for a GF berth. Risky business North... I don't think they'll pick him unless someone else falls over.
