Postby MightyEagles » Sun Sep 23, 2007 7:30 pm

Will Eagles win and face Central again or can North rebound after a bad finish.

Perhaps Sydney Dog but perhaps not .
Last week the Eagles just lost to North and had to play in a final that they normally don't have to play in.This week just winning means the EAGLES are playing in a final they normally play in this time of year.

And its the same old Enemy North Adelaide  whatever happens with the EAGLES they have had a very hard year at one stage being down the bottom with Glenelg. Both teams made it to the finals the Eagles need just one more win to defend their title from last year.

At this time of the year Ron Fuller and the boys know what to do.

Sides 2-5 have been so even this year, once again I have no idea who will win. I do think North are in a much better position at this stage of the season than they have been in previous years so if the Eagles are to win, they'll have to play out of their skins. Which this Eagles playing group is capable of doing.

And dare I say Passador is a chance to play this week to bolster that forward line .

2007 Preliminary Final - North vs Eagles

Postby eaglehaslanded » Sun Sep 23, 2007 8:39 pm

Can the Eagles reverse the 2nd Semi Final result or will it be a repeat. One thing for sure this game will be a crackerjack. Can't wait until next sunday - bring it on.

Is the Eagles run of 10 games in a row starting to take its toll? The players looked out on their feet at the end of the game today. North have now played 8 games in a row. Whoever wins next week will have a hell of a job against a confident and rested dogs.

Doesn't really mattter to tell the truth, as a fan of the SANFL I hope North make it to bring some colour to the GF that it's been missing lately but I really don't seeing the opponent making much difference.
I'm concentrating on the Cats this week and won't worry about the SANFL Prelim until Sunday morning.

The Eagles have listed Passador, Colville and Grocke all as "Test" on their injury list. Interestingly Tim Inkster has been taken off so you would assume he is available for selection? I think the Eagles had the right mix of talls/smalls for the game against Glenelg and I would expect they would go for the same mix again? My thoughts are they may at least start McGregor at CHB and include one of Grocke, Passador or Inkster in the forward line.

The midfields match up fairly well. I think whoever plays harder for longer will come out on top in that department. North have added to their midfield depth this year to match the likes of Central and Eagles in this department.

The Eagles forward line hasn't really clicked yet in the finals series. It was fortunate that Treeby was a major goalkicker from his wing and Symmons bobbed up with a couple to get enough of a score to beat Glenelg. Schwarze has looked dangerous without being truly effective yet and Salter and McGregor were quiet on the weekend.

The Eagles defence will be tested by North's dangerous forward line. Ladhams was matched up by Colville in the Qualifying Final and that was a great battle until Colville went off injured. I was impressed by Redden's performance on McConnell and think Ladhams is a similar player so Redden may get the job there. Ladhams requires a player who can match him in a marking contest and who is comfortable playing full back as Jarman will often shift Ladhams to full forward.

Alleway plays mostly from CHF and I would like to see McKenzie matched up on him as I believe McKenzie is best for the Eagles when he is further up the ground. All the other North forwards tend to get close to the goal square.

Wundke should have Hier as his opponent and North's real danger man is Nick Gill. I'd give McGregor the job to nullify Gill.

The two most versatile and important players for their respective teams are McKenzie and Hart. Both are match winners in the midfield, capable of controlling the half back line or potential goal kickers. Fuller needs to show the same versatility in the coaches box as he did on Sunday to ensure McKenzie is in the game and the forward line is up and about and unpredictable.

I hope North's players aren't as physically and mentally spent as I am after the last couple of months of footy we've had.
Originally I thought our run into the finals was great preparation but with the comebacks, hard games and niggling injuries I reckon we might just about be running on empty soon.
Hope I'm wrong as I can't see myself going to the GF even if our Ressies make it if its Eagles v Central, I'd rather watch Bathurst.
