Glenelg fans, what are your thoughts on his coaching of Glenelg so far? Interesting comments from Ron Fuller who was full of praise for Mickan in this weeks Coaches Comments:
"Glenelg have become a genuine finals team and I actually believe that had a couple of their key players not got injured late last year they would have played finals in 2006, so it is not surprising that they have taken the next step this year. We know they are well coached and we respect the work of Mark Mickan a lot. Our Club’s success over the last decade is in no small way due to the high standards Mark put in place nearly 10 years ago and we are sure he is doing the same thing with Glenelg."

I personally think he's excellent. While I am obviously far from the inner circle, he nearly always seems calm and collected, and has clear thoughts and ideas on what he wants the playing group to achieve. He will admit he's not the greatest communicator in the world, or the most passionate person, (and possibly not the most organised) but from my chats to people who work with him (and used to work with him) they all say he's great.
His assistant coaches also seem a good mix, if they need the rant and rave stuff thats when Rowey steps up to the plate. Has assembled a great support team and they appear to be working together beautifully.
He's also easy to chat to after the game, never a drama to spare 20 seconds of his time.
Most importantly, he has the respect of the team @ the GFC.
Get's my tick of approval.

I too hold the same view as Ron, and I think he will be the man to keep Glenelg in the top half of the competition for years to come. And quite possibly the flag.

I knew Glenelg were on the right track when I heard of his appointment. I don't know much about him from these days, but when he played for West and the Brisbane Bears he always seemed to have that single minded approach to whatever was at hand, he always looked focussed. I could easily imagine him commanding the respect of those around him, and convincing people of the value of whatever goal he himself is seeking.
Obviously last year was rebuilding, and this year Glenelg lost a few narrow ones early but are hitting back very hard now. If they can hold onto him, Glenelg will certainly be a force to be reckoned with for as long as they can keep him IMO.

I had a bet with Wedgie, about last week's Sturt vs North clash. I have to bear this avatar and sig' until Sturt's next game.
See the thread "It's fun bet time" for more details.

At least you have had the guts to honour the bet, no matter how sick the logo may make you feel!

Well done for that!

The jury's still out for me in regard to Mickan, Ive seen him have the Bays play fantastic football and Ive seen him have them play absolute crap football, the style he has them playing when they're at their best is very impressive.
When they're playing at their best at the Bay Oval they're the best team to watch in the league with the style they play IMHO.
He's very uninsperational at the huddles but that's just him as he's a low key bloke.
Tactically he seems pretty good.

Very good comment, on Saturday against Peckers was first time I actually heard his voice at 3/4 time. Normally its just Rowey firing the boys on.
