Redlegs ready to have a crack against Crows
By ZAC MILBANK
ADELAIDE is confident its annual trial match with Norwood will serve its purpose despite the Crows threatening to rack up another cricket score against the SANFL club.
After winning their past two encounters with the Redlegs at The Parade by a combined margin of 215 points, the Crows should again be comfortable victors on February 17. "As long as the opposition is having a decent crack then it still makes it a good game," Adelaide football operations manager John Reid said regarding the likely lopsided result. "The scoreboard might be a little bit out of kilter but the actual competition level, we feel that Norwood really will have a decent crack so we're quite happy with that."
In discussions with new Norwood coach Trevor Hill, Adelaide has been assured the Redlegs will line up with as close to their strongest team as possible. "They're very keen to put their best side out for their own self respect and for the Norwood Footy Club," Reid said. "Over the past few years it hasn't quite worked out that way but we're very confident they'll get a fair bit out of it too." Reid said the traditional format of playing an opposition club was still preferred over an internal trial.
"It's nice to have an opposition and Neil (Craig) finds it gives him a chance to have a look at some of the work they've been doing against opposition," Reid said. Unlike previous years when Adelaide's younger players have played against another SANFL club in the curtain-raiser, this season they will tackle Norwood's reserves. State under-18 representatives will be used by the Crows as top-up players for the first match starting at 5pm. Adelaide's main squad will then take on a full-strength Redlegs outfit, which will be guided by coach Hill for the first time from 7pm.
