Don't think he can be as he has not been on an AFL list in the past 2 years and doesnt falls within top up players criteria.

I don't think Essendon care about any of the rules. Their mates at the AFL will find a way around it.

Essendon will only be allowed to recruit players who were on an AFL club's list within the past two years or from within the Bombers' own VFL team, unless otherwise approved by AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon.

That's a loophole you can drive a truck through.

But if there are no records, did the truck ever really go through it? :-?

Not sure he would go. As we all know, money is no great motivator for him.

This Essendon saga gets worse with every new article you read.
From the WA press:
"the cries of state league clubs are likely to fall on deaf ears as the AFL informed WAFL, VFL and SANFL clubs that compensation in the form of players won’t be forthcoming.
State league clubs will only be reimbursed for sign on fees, relocation costs and transfers to outgoing players such as Crowley for the 2016 season."

At this stage of the our clubs can just sit there and hope they don't get their players pick with little or no compensation. I hope our player contracts allow us to say no to Essendon.

Court action is required if they are strong enough.

Listening to Rob Kerr tonight and whilst not categorically saying it I got the feeling the club will be asking the AFL to allow them to take 1 player who doesn't fit the criteria.
Levicki is definately high on the radar.

Not the best situation to be in at the moment as you say squads are fixed and preseason is in full swing.

As for the contracts, typically there is a clause about being drafted but what about this situation when you picked as a top player?

Maybe Sommerton is sick of playing for a zombie club. He's still a shitey little quisling though.

All the other crap about the AFL clubs recruiting this late in the season is laughable. I mean it's not as if the SANFL and most of the clubs see the comp as anything other than a practice comp for the AFL is it?

The clubs gave up the moral right to complain about sh*t like this in 2013.

Centrals didn't give up its moral right to complain.

Don't lump us in with your deceitful backstabbing shitful club please.

Do have to a bit of a giggle about the complaints of afl (Essendon) recruiting this late in the year.. It has never stopped SANFL clubs from taking what they like from community football clubs if they see what they like.

Whats infuriating is that we have had to turn away a returning player who was training with us due to salary cap rules and now that player that we have supposedly recruited has left

Wry smile when a certain new SANFL coach tried just that this week. Hypocrisy abounds.

Keep hearing this but not alot coming out of Essendon or Melbourne to suggest this is any more than the SA Media pushing this. Might be wrong and he'll be signed in the next day or so, but doesn't seem like alot of movement at the moment.

Stick to picking the world's most meaningless fights with Big Phil and re-read the bit of the post where I said 'most clubs' boyo.
