I note that South Adelaide have leased out the upstairs club rooms for the next 12 months to Cardine College that has turned the room into class rooms . This has caused issues with local grass roots leagues who from time have utilize the room .

Just another business decision

Makes you wonder if any other SANFL clubs provide free office space and use of office facilities, meeting rooms, and a function room for leagues in their zones.

'booney' you mentioned 22 AFL + 21 SANFL players. I think you will find this SANFL season that league and reserves teams will have 22 players. Now four interchange.

Have the full AFL rule changes been adopted by the SANFL this year?

They have introduced 8 (not sure how many the AFL have) namely:

1. Traditional Playing Positions at Centre Bounce
Implementation of a traditional set up at centre bounces – clubs must have six players inside both 50-Metre arcs, with one player required to be inside the goal square. Four midfield players are positioned inside the centre square with the wingmen required to be placed somewhere along the wing (no closer to either goal than the centre square line).

2. Kick-ins
Kick-ins from a Behind, a Player will no longer need to kick to himself to Play On out of the Goal Square.

Following a Behind, the man on The Mark will be positioned 10 metres from the top of the Goal Square (currently 5 metres).

No opposition player can enter the area shown with the dotted line until the designated kicker has played on or been called to play on from the goal square. Any opposition player already in the area when the behind is scored must be actively exiting the area.

3. Marks / Free Kicks (Deep D50)
For all defenders who take a mark or gain a free kick within 9 metres of their own goal, the man on the mark for the attacking team will be brought in line with the top of the goal square (which is 9 metres).

4. Umpire Contact
Players will be prohibited from setting up behind the Umpire at each centre bounce.

5. Application of 25-Metre Penalty
Allowing the player with the ball to advance the mark by 25 metres without the infringing player delaying the game.

In addition, the player with the football will be able to play on during the advancement of the 25-metre penalty.

6. Kicking for Goal post-siren – Centre of Goal Line
A Player who has been awarded a mark or free kick once play has ended will now be able to kick across their body using a snap or check-side kick. The player shall dispose of the football directly in line with the man on the mark and the goal.

7. Marking Contest
‘Hands in the Back’ rule interpretation to be repealed, allowing a player to place his hands on the back of his opponent to protect his position in a marking contest but not to push the player in the back.

8. Ruck Contests – Prior Opportunity
A Ruck player who takes possession of the football while contesting a bounce or throw up by a field Umpire or a boundary throw in by a boundary Umpire, will not be regarded as having had prior opportunity. Where there is uncertainty over who is the designated Ruck, the Ruck for each team will continue to nominate to the field Umpire. SANFL Rules still permit a ”third man” contesting the ruck contest.

Thanks Doc, basically the same as the AFL.

I love the word "Traditional" set up with 6 inside 50, always used to be a couple of forwards on the square at bounce up, that won't able to happen now as they will all be inside 50. At the big grounds like Elizabeth and Woody oval it will make so much more space, will be interesting to see how it goes.

I still think an extra bonus point for teams that can score over 100 points is the way to go.

Don’t change the rules just change the reward system and let the coaches work out the issue of their teams lack of scoring problem.

A little bit like the EPL (3 points for a win and 1 for a draw)?
I f I have read you right, it'll be 3 points for a win where your team scores over 100 points and 1 point for a loss where the team has scored over 100 points.

Interesting idea, probably worth the consideration of the rules people. Rather than constantly changing the rules, how about a reward for high scoring, which is what they are contriving to achieve with all these CONSTANT rule changes?
Worth a try, I think the idea at least deserves analysis. I can't see any obvious disadvantage.

I'm not sure if this is your original idea UK, but if you thought of it you deserve the Nobel.

I'm inclined to raise the bar from 100 to 130 points for the bonus premiership point - teams could have 100 points by 3/4time and the last quarter could be become a dull affair - not many modern games have teams breaking 130 by 3/4 time.

A bonus point is way too generous. The bonus is you normally win and enjoy the game.

Dare I say the reason that you play in the first instance.

Higher scoring does not equate to better football. Give me a tight contest any day, regardless of the score.

Tend to agree with DOC's thoughts.

However, if you were going to go the bonus point it should be for scoring twenty goals so as to reward accurate kicking.

Not sure how you can do a extra point rule with different playing conditions/times over a weekend.
