without making any statement about innocence, guilt or otherwise (as directed by my legal counsel), the Eagles may look a bit silly if the guilty verdict is upheld and the penalty is increased.

Not as silly as the SANFL would look if the appeal was successful!

Spoke to Fisher's father this week and he's not a happy camper.
Apparently Ben has undergone catscans and MRI's this week as he is still numb and tingly around the neck area.
They reckon he was very, very, very lucky not to be in a wheelchair.

All jokes and friendly (or not so) banter aside, the main issue here is whether the lad will be OK.

From the SANFL web site in regards to the Eagles appealing the Shirly verdict...

APPEAL TO THE TRIBUNAL – THURSDAY, MAY 21

The Woodville-West Torrens Football Club has appealed an SANFL Tribunal decision handed down to player Robert Shirley.

The hearing, which took place at AAMI Stadium last night (Tuesday, May 19), related to a rough conduct charge against Shirley.

The Tribunal found Shirley guilty of the charge and consequently suspended him for two matches.

Lets hope it backfires and he gets a harsher penalty. I'm sorry but they should've just accepted the original sentence, they should’ve been happy with 2 weeks.

What an absolute disgrace. Sounds like the eagles are condoning that sort of tackle considering there were 2 more earlier in the U18s that went unpunished (not even a free kick).

C'mon guys. Can I ask who is at fault if there were 2 tackles like this in the U/18's that went unpunsihed.......... The Eagles or The Umpires??? If you blokes think that the Crows would not have had input into this decision then I have given you a lot more credit over the years than I should have.... You can hope he gets a harsher penalty all you want, the simple fact is that he is not an Eagles player, he is on loan to the Eagles and I am sure that the Crows would have the last word, just as if it was a player from your Club......

My mail from West Lakes is that this is the Crows doing. His career is over if he gets 2 weeks because that means more than that out of the Crows team so he may as well take a chance.

Surely you understand that?

I find it really weird that the people who say the penalty is too harsh are ACTUALLY NOT THE PEOPLE WHO WENT TO THE GAME AND SAW THE INCIDENT. Bayman, Mal, myself and others who saw the game and incident all seem to agree that the penalty is not harsh enough. Surely that has to say something.
