Who was the player you mentioned, smac? I saw a few absolute sitter marks dropped which cost Sturt a couple of goals, but I didn't see anything like what you have described.

I think you'll find Wicks and Coad got an absolute blast from Rick Macgowan at the 3/4 time huddle. I was lucky enough to have close up access to his players address and he singled out those 2 in particular for "soft" efforts. There were plenty of "F" words as well thrown in there. I mentioned it was the most fired up I have ever seen Rick in 15 years of knowing him...

I heard the address - though from 5 meters further back due to not having the media "cred" that you do - Coad and Wicks were blasted for lack of accountability, not "backing out of a contest"...

I wasn't there to hear Rick's address but I did think Wicks pulled out of a couple of telling contests during the game. I know he's not the sort of player you want in and under, but he really can't afford to do that in a final. The 21 the dogs put out on the park will all go hard and take whatever comes their way. If any player from any other team fails to replicate this it will turn into a serious advantage to the dogs, as I felt it did on Saturday night.

Coad dropped a couple of marks, seemingly expecting a hit. I don't think he pulled out like Wicks but the expectation of being hit seemed to affect his focus a couple of times.

As for the lights, it's been mentioned many times before. The quality of light has no bearing on the play. Never have I seen anyone play any differently to what they would in a game situation. I have ordinary eyesight, especially under artificial light of any sort and can see the play fine. I struggle to see player numbers on the other side of the field as clearly as I do during the day, but since I can follow the play easily I can't imagine the players have any trouble. Hence, I think there is no problem with the quality of the lighting. For those knockers, I say the choice is that level of lighting or no night football at HHO. We can't afford the MCG lighting (designed for cricket where the quality of lighting is far more important) and since night footy brings larger crowds conprising many people who can't make saturday afternoons due to amateur and country footy. The choice is a pretty simple one IMHO.

Don't put that on the AFL Board or Central supporters will be labelled soft

Crowd on Sat afternoon must = crowd on a Sat night otherwise SOFT!!!!

(Grahaml - this is not a dig at you but a stir for those that visit the AFL Board. They will know what I mean. I don't think Central fans are soft)

Reread the post smac - there is no mention in it of any impact on the result. It rained at Glenelg, Alberton and Woodville 4 days earlier too, there did not appear to be a dustbowl in the centre of those grounds.I just thought the conditions were not up to standard for BOTH teams!

It was raining on Sunday, of course the other grounds didn't look a dustbowl.

I was speaking with a guy on Saturday afternoon who had been at a soccer field in Golden Grove Saturday morning who said that he was surprised how hard and dry the ground was given the recent rains. I think it was a genuine surprise to everyone that the ground was as dry as it was. Elizabeth is one of the areas that gets less rain in metro Adelaide as well, IIRC.

The oval wasn't dry.
Due to the recent success of the Central District Football Club more people are having their ashes spread over the Hamra Homes Oval. :)

Coad had his first game back after 4-5 weeks with injury and he had a shocker to start with but found some form in the last 1/4. He will be better for the run, Rick has made that point during the week also. I thought the surface at Mutt Park was really good, just suprised how dusty it was in the middle but I think the lights highlighted that also.

Don't worry Hondo, if they label that comment as soft then someone has a problem! The main reason I made the comment was just that people with other footy commitments can make the game. If those people are soft then I feel sorry for whoever feels that way. AFL crowds are a bit different to SANFL. A larger percentage of an SANFL supporter base is involved in local footy so it has more of an effect than on an AFL crowd. Bit sad if people have trouble understanding something like that.

I normally don't have a problem with spotting players in photos, both from Centrals and other clubs. But a snap shot taken from Saturday nights game has me miffed as to who a certain player in the far left hand side is ????

Can anyone help ? I think it is one of the Gowans twins but for whatever reason, perhaps the angle, I'm not fully convinced. At first glance thought it was Chad O'Sullivan but he is in the middle of the pic. It is the player covering Ian Callinan's head in the far elft hand side, as circled. I would appreciate anyone who may know ?

Yeh, James or is that Chris. definitely James can tell by the scar on his chin. Or Chris from the scar on the eyebrow?

Pretty sure that's a Gowans, Philby. WHich one is anyones guess.

Best thing about that photo is also the best part of the game on Saturday night. Every player has their eye on the ball.

If the ambient lighting had been of reasonable standard then you'd have had no problem identifying any player.
