sturt were sensational

glenelg fairly ordinary for most of the day

must thank CHAMBO for choking and imploding in the last 1/4

Yes sturt were severely under-strength and Glenelg had a better team on paper - of course games are not won on paper.

I would love to play sturt in a final with them being full strength, my main concern is still the woofers.

so if a Glenelg AFL listed player kicks the winning goal in the grand final does that mean you dont win the flag?

we dont need afl listed players mate, if you do, your dont deserve to be there

Turn it up, you've got your share of AFL rejects and interstate ring-ins. We can't help it if yours aren't up to standard

AT the very least, where's some pics?

Well I'll try. I got there about 15 mins before the first bounce, and parked about 500 metres further down the road I normally park. Even way back in the suburbs you knew the crowd was gonna be huge- people were converging from everywhere. People in the front yards were yelling "Go the Bays" to me (I still find it so hard to believe that people living that close to the game dont attend!). Walked behind the southern goals through the primary school, where a few blokes were getting their last pre-$5 cans down. Even from walking through there the crowd didnt look that big, however, when I got out to Brighton road it was a different story. The queue to buy a ticket into the ground last year went frm the oval to Brighton Road. This year the line went from the gate, to Brighton Road, and then down to the corner across from the Holdy! I kid you not, never has a season ticket been more advantageous...

Went in and stood along the members wing with Tee (a well respected Sturt supporter 8) ) for the first quarter, the crowd was solid but still didnt seem huge. Pretty healthy dose of Sturt supporters where I was standing. At 1/4 time I ventured to the hill for a beverage, still managed to get through to the bar without too much hassle (Kudos to the bar staff in Snouts Bar for opening the middle window for beers too, made it as quick and painless as it could be for getting a beer). The crowd had swelled markedly half way through the second quarter (Obviously the previously mentioned line had finally managed to get in). I dont think the TV coverage did the crowd justice, as it looked reasonably well attended on the outer wing, but the members side was very solidly packed. Great atmosphere on the hill- cheers to the Sturt boys near us who gave as good as they got, had some really cracking banter with them. Crowd was suitably subdued during the third quarter, as the teams slugged it out. But the last quarter cheers when the Sturt boys missed their shots at goal were loud, and Mouses goal in the last quarter was the loudest cheer I have heard at the bay since Michael Aish got pinged holding the ball in front of Snouts Hill in about 1990 (cue spelly, it was the game where Norwood kicked 10 in the first quarter but the bays still won)!! I think the most pleasing part from a Bays fan's point of view was that there was obviously a lot of "Non SANFL" people there who will come back after being involved in a day like yesterday. And the number of kids kicking footies after the game was amazing- got to be good for the SANFL. Standing on the ground having a chat after the game, there were still about 2000 people at the ground half an hour afterwards-well done to the GFC for providing a great facility where parents can have a drink post game and keep an eye on the kids kicking footies.

Phew! A great day to be at the footy.

Disappointed but not shattered. Awesome day out at the Bay - brought back fantastic memories. They've finally got it together with catering at the southern end and the fortress is the funniest toilet I have ever seen - well done with that! Oh my sides...

Very proud of the Blues, it's not an excuse that they were undermanned, just a simple fact. Bays showed their class in the last quarter and I sincerely we hope we meet in the finals, possibly the big one. Would be the biggest GF crowd since the Crows came in I would wager.

Any other week and the Blues would have had a 6-8 goal better side.
Worrying times for Bays supporters.
Morale victors today was easily Sturt.
Wouldn't suprise me to see Glenelg start sliding after an effort like that today.

Wedgie, you let yourself down with ill-informed comments like that.
You can only play against the 21 out there and while Sturt's outs were significant, the blokes who came in played their hearts out. There's no doubt the rest of the Sturt team found an extra 10% to help cover their losses.
With Fish going down and Roo gone early in the game, Glenelg was stretched as well.
I felt the game was "unloseable" for Sturt at three quarter-time, finishing with a significant win.
Glenelg heads were down, they had come off a tough game against Central the week before and had to kick into a significant wind in the final term. The Sturt blokes I went with were confident of winning by at least 5 goals at that stage.
So to pull it out of the fire like they did showed unbelievable courage.
No question that Sturt left with their reputations untarnished, perhaps even enhanced. But it was one of the great Glenelg wins and the only worry Bay supporters have got is how long it will take lining up to get into the ground for the next home game.

at the end of the day, Sturt were down a few players, Glenelg probably played the worst game since round one and still managed to win. We copped a few injuries and didnt have many fit guys on the bench to use. The second and third quarters let us down, especially when Sturt scored 7 in the second. I only saw the game on the tele, and I only saw one team stand up when it counted.

Magnificent game to be at, great atmosphere pre-game and a real buzz in the air throughout. It felt like the 80's again in terms of the feel in the air. The game itself was a cracker, full of big contests at the ball (Murphy's bump in the 3rd term was a pearler) and no-one lay down at any stage. If there was a better advertisement for how healthy the competition was this year, it would be great to see it. To see so many younger fans there, with many going to Mouse after the game for a chat and autographs for one, was really heartwarming to some of those doomsayers that say the SANFL has a bit to make up on AFL still. The mere fact that the next generation of fans was encouraged to be out on the oval at the breaks and after the game will always leave the AFL far behind in that respect. This game should nearly be replayed on commercial TV to show some of those doubting Thomases that the difference between SANFL and AFL in terms of physicality is a big one, and would be pivotal in getting many disaffected fans back.

Full credit to the battle in ruck. Angus Kurtze was always going to have a tough job against Trevor Cranston, but was more than competitive all day. Interesting to see Ian Perrie take some centre knocks also, would have thought Herring might be thrown in there, but nothing doing. The hard running from both sides was a feature and some of the one-on-one contests, which probably would have led to reports at AFL level, were sensibly let go by the umpires - which was also a feature. A very good display from the three umpires to let the game flow constantly.

Ten wins in a row is a fantastic effort at any level, and the Bays fans deserve to be proud of it, but take nothing away from Sturt, they were very brave all day. A couple of uncharacteristic mistakes late just cost them when it counted. The crowd figure was interesting. Certainly a lot of fans there though.

At least we don't have to step around dog 5hit to get to our toilets

I thought the club did very well in getting them up and running after the drama with the council re funding etc....

And on the game.

Happy we got the points over a very switched on Sturt. Need a light week on the track before we back up against the Cocks.

Great crowd, good atmosphere and the beer was cold....
