Remove people like Leigh Wicker, old Max Basheer and the representatives of Adelaide's old money at the SACA from the negotiating table because they still hold grudges from the early 70's before Footy Park was built, yes believe it or not there are still some of the antagonists alive and occupying seat on the relative boards and put something in place like the Sydney Cricket and Football Ground trust to administer it and move forward. Sell the land off at Hindmarsh and West Lakes to help pay for it and then.............................
Create a sporting hub with a combined stadium for the soccerites and if the bum sniffers from the NRL have another go at this market, redevelop Memorial Drive for the tennis and build a magnificent stadium on the Adelaide Oval site for Football and Cricket.
In time we might create a new restaurant and entertainment precint on the north side of the Torrens.

It's really not that bloody hard and who knows we might even look like we belong in the 21st century.

P!ss off, as a SACA member I like Adelaide Oval just as it is - allowing for the planned upgrade which essentially maintains its character. Looking forward to one day potentially standing for the SACA board or certainly voting for those people who do stand for the SACA committee to maintain the ground as an oval not a stadium.
Yeah maybe you're right, lets just leave everything as it is. Maybe they'd consider removing the traffic lights as well and having a few horses pull the tram through the city.

Would you sell your home that you built so you can share it with others without owning and controlling it outright like you do now?

Face it the SANFL ain't going to move unless they can have what tehy have now in teh city and control it and own it. Other sports aren't going to want to share it/ use it if they can't have a stake in how it is run either.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I'd love to see the evidence at least so I can shut up!!!

Difficult to get the evidence.

Total culmulative viewers of Germany '06 was 26.2b but that is just by adding up each game's total viewership, so some (like me) could be counted 64 times (if they watched every game).

Can't really do a culmulative figure with the Olympics as the events aren't of as defined durations and you would get more passing traffic...

Athens '04 reached 3.9b people allegedly. I'd suggest WC's would have similar reach. Afterall, there are probably 4 or 5 billion TVs in the world...

OK - some of these articles are a bit wanky (especially the first), but...

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/worldcup2006/features/olympics.html

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601100&sid=azB12YvdJYEw

http://www.sportbusiness.com/news/166312/record-olympic-and-euro-champs-tv-audiences-expected-in-2008

The following table is cited from an article in the Media Guardian on
Dec 23, 2004, titled "Euro final tops TV sports league":

1. Football: Euro 2004 final Portugal v Greece 153 million
2. Olympic Games: opening ceremony 127 million
3. Olympic Games: closing ceremony 96 million
4. American football: Super Bowl 95 million
5. Olympic Games: men's 100m metres 87 million
6. Olympic Games: men's 200m freestyle swimming 66 million
7. Formula one: Monaco grand prix 59 million
8. Football: Champions League final Porto v Monaco 56 million
9. Basketball: NBA finals 25 million
10.= Tennis: Wimbledon women's singles final 21 million
10.= Tennis: Wimbledon men's singles final 21 million
12. Cycling: Tour de France final stage 16 million

For a start, you and I as members are stakeholders of the SACA and the poor souls who part with their hard earned down at West lakes have a vested interest there as well. Your analogy is filled with holes when comparing the ownership of a home (cave).

Your second observation is with all due respect a little naive. Any income wouldn't just go into a black hole, it would be redistributed to the cricket in Summer and Football in Winter depending on their own promotion of the their code minus costs. What's better, 2 stadiums being used for six months each or 1 for 12 months.

According to your list the World Cup of Soccer isn't even in the Top 12!
(As opposed to the Olympics which has 4?)

Here's where its at anyway, Australia, too much of the rest of the world is full of foreigners and who cares what they do:

It was a list of events held in 2004, so no WC was held.

Note Euro '04 even out-rating the 4 Olympic events... Which goes even further in proving my point...

That's no excuse, the Football World Cup still didn't rate!

So, looking at those two lists, any upgrade of any stadium in Australia should make provision for rugby and tennis and cricket, but should also include plans to improve the acoustics, install some worm technology, lay a dancefloor, and put in a gym and a diary room...

Yeah but our underlying issue is how good the stadium is that the SANFL Grand Final is played in!
