Will be interesting from here, if they play all their AFL players that means they start their pre-season 2 weeks later than the 22 that played last night, not something Ken would like, especially from his younger players

If Ken's still there ;)

Professionals in a GF, twice in four years. The sanfl or sanfull or what ever their marketing/afl has dictated it is, is such a pathetic farcical "competition". Hope the power smash whatever bend over club they play in a fortnight.

Agree. Feel dirty saying it but hope Port win the GF and throw the humble pie into a "yes" voting teams faces. (Sturt big advocators for the AFL ressies)

Could not give a crap now.

I will sit back and enjoy the chaos.

I think they play to win.

Agreed, I think they'll try to scramble for anything now to try appease their "fans".
I think they'll give up on an AFL flag for a long time as they know it's not going to happen.
Purely a PR stunt.

My thoughts exactly.

Im sure some corporate bookies will hope Port pull the pin after they bet $10 at start of the season.

I suspect a shocking run with soft tissue injuries this week ;)

I reckon they'll be out to win and claim it as a magpies flag (reminds of the steve summerton Facebook post). The only time they wanted to pull them out was under the old system, when they were dispersed amongst the sanfl sides.

This will be the third year on four one of the 2's sides have made the gf over there, with East Perth in 2014.
East Perth also finished third in 2015.
Peel have made the finals every year, east perth the first three but not this year

Also very interesting that the WAFL season is on the cusp of being shortened to 18 games over 21 rounds - and this is being touted as an enhancement of the competition:

War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. Less Football is an Enhancement.

So this year we have
WAFL: AFL Reserves team in GF
SANFL: AFL Reserves team in GF
VFL: AFL Reserves team in GF
NEAFL: All AFL Reserves GF with the Lions defeating Sydney.
Little wonder crowds are dwindling

You forgot to mention they have also killed off the VFL reserves league. Apparently it's Ok for AFL teams to have reserves but not the genuine state league clubs....

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH another nail in the coffin of the SANFL.

Kudos to the six clubs who voted yes and a special thanks to the SANFL for its endorsement.

Well done by all.

Bravo.

I pointed it out last year - reposted again yesterday.

2016 premiers: One of these is not like the others.
NEAFL - GWS
WAFL - Peel
SANFL - Sturt
VFL - Footscray

One thing that certainly needs to change is the name of the team. The vast majority of the team are not Magpie footballers, but Power reserves. If they are going to call themselves the Magpies, then, once the Power are out of the finals, the team should be comprised totally of MAGPIE footballers, not Power squad members (Power reserves). As one player stated yesterday, we know very little of the Magpie identity, we just play for the few boys in this team for whom the Magpies means something.

I have no problem in Power Reserves players playing for Port, just that it really has to be Power Reserves, not Magpies.

Cheers

We have a right to say what we think of our competition, but definitely no right to tell a club what they call themselves.

Okay, then, let's change it to a right to state what our competition should consist of: if Port are going to call themselves Port Magpies, then they have to use Port Magpie players in the finals rather than Power squad members :D Once the Power's season is over, Power squad members don't need the match fitness and conditioning that is the key purpose (according to the Power) of having their players play for the Magpies. After all, their contract is to Port Power, they have no contract with the Port Magpies.
Personally, I would think it fairer that they just change their name, but have it your way! ;)
