Simple fact is it was a reality check as to where we are as a club.

And thanks for the laugh to those Sturt supporters who claim Payne is one of their best players after just 6 rounds of the year, compared to those established players from both sides who were missing.

Obviously you need a laugh after Saturdays performance, so we're happy to oblige..A happy Eagle is a happy forum!!
I think Payne has been brought up just as a counter to the excuses brought up by WWT supporters, I have mentioned his name including him into the argument as he is our main recruit for this year, probably one of our only ones! As yet he hasn't been given the chance to prove himself through injury. But at least he hasn't been dropped through form!!!

Some observations after the game Saturday-
-We need our best 21 on the field to challenge the better sides.
-We need to turn up to play (unlike Saturday) to beat the better sides
-Our second teir on-ballers aren't up to it yet and just don't get enough of the footy
-We are badly missing a fit, inform Passador or Salter to take the pressure off Westbrook or Hill
-We lack pace in the side generally and don't run enough
-Dabrowski needs back up, Miles ok but not against tall opposition
-Cheep, whilst highly skilled isn't doing enough damage yet
-Disappointing crowd considering the promise of the game.

Need to beat West next week and then regroup over the state game.

And Mitch Farmer?

There's a few Sturt fans that reckon he's in our best 21

In opinion of Sturt fans, why does Farmer appear to be in the doghouse at the moment? Maybe not the most highly skilled of players but there wouldn't be many at any level that go harder at it than he does

Couldn't get to game due to playing commitments of my own but was thinking it was certainly going to help our cause with Ciccolella out.
Chambers must have had a day out and bad luck to Jaensch who probably had his best game for the club last week.

Not a critiscism just a genuine question.

How have the Eagles fans seen new recruit Jay Cheeps season so far. He came over with massive wraps and was chased by more than one SANFL club.

I have only seen him once which was in round 1 against Central and i thought he looked like he will star this year. But going by his statistics in the paper recently he doesn't seem to be winning alot of the ball, or not enough for a gun midfielder.

Is he just taking a while to adjust to the pace of the SANFL or his struggling a little with the slighlty higher standard. Or on the other note is he doing well and just needs to continue on with this form.

Probably a combination of taking time to adjust and doing ok..... but probably needs to win more of the ball..think you covered all the bases quite well there really!

Reality check fellow Eagles, I thought we were getting ahead of ourselves but I expected we could have covered our player losses better than we did.
When under pressure none of our second tier players stood up, it' ok to rock and roll when the team is going well but many players were missing in action.
Sturt played a great game and cracked us late in the second quarter, Sturts high marking and clean hands enabled them to run us ragged.
Under consideration for a league spot this week must be Staple, Mc Entee, Fitzgerald and Cica and I think another one of our key players may have pulled up very sore. Eagles will find a win against West pretty difficult I fear.

By looking at the way Sturt supporters behind the northern goals were carrying on after the game one might be forgiven for thinking differently. A little warning for those in blue ahead of our next battlle against each other though and that is you did only beat an Eagles side at 2/3 of it's best. We had at minimum 7 of our best 21 missing from todays game.

I don't think any of us Sturt supporters were carrying on other than appreciating a bloody good win by the team, and an outstanding effort by Chambo in scoring the exact same score as your team was able to produce with 21 players. I walked past your small representative of supporters and was confronted with 'you wouldn't be beating us with our full side', I took one look at them and felt sorry for them and didn't bother to comment. We managed the win with only 20 fit players from the first five minutes of the game and the duration. We all know the season is a marathon and yes premierships are not won in May...we're happy to come away with the points moving forward.

GREAT WIN!

I again recorded the game off the net on to my walkman (I love that little contraption!), and listened to it at my own leisure, in the company of some Pale Ales after I finished work and sunk a few liters of beer at a Korean BBQ restaurant.

The game could easily be divided into two parts: Before the 20 min mark of the 2nd quarter, and after.
Before, neither side had scored 2 goals in a row. The lead had changed at least 10 times. It was difficult to understand which way it was going to go, or who was on top. It seemed as though the Eagles held the lead longer in that first part of the game, as Sturt's answering goal always took longer to score, then the Eagles would get one back in about a minute and snatch the lead back again. I only had the radio call to form a judgment but I think Sturt were playing their usual possession oriented game and were looking to be in control of the ball as well as putting goals on the board.
Broadbent for the Eagles kept popping up and it was mentioned that he scored his first ever goal for the Eagles today, and ended with three. Fiiachi's name was heard a bit also in the early part.
I had the feeling that the day was shaping as a real test for either side, that the club with the greater will would emerge the victor as both struggled for an edge.
Enter the second part of the game and Sturt simply tore them apart kicking 6 straight to go about 30 points up at the half. Suddenly the Blues were breaking from the center and laying it lace out to Chambers, who kicked three goals straight to finish the quarter. In one play which the commentators praised for minutes afterward, Sheedy picked Chambo out amidst three Eagle defenders with a precision pass. Kurtze also started having an impact in the forward lines as well as carrying the ruck duties, this influence must have helped out Chambers and given the Eagles an extra target to try and nullify.
The Eagles were rarely mentioned for the rest of the game. It was unbelievable the sudden change.
Finally, it was fantastic hearing, (albeit briefly), the Sturt cheer squad hammering out a cheer after Chambo scored his 10th goal for the match in the final quarter. There's nothing like the sound of the crowd going up in unison when your footy team's on a roll, and hearing it halfway across the globe helps make those thousands of kilometers shrink for a little while. Just until I woke up hungover this morning anyway. Well done lads!
GO YOU BLUES!!!!
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

The Eagles certainly miss Joe Pedler, he always gave Chambo trouble. None of the recent full backs can match him or even look like it. Mind you, with the delivery Chambers got from the midfield he was always up for kicking a few.

Woodville Oval is a fantastic suburban venue, one for which us Sturt supporters would kill for. Pity your supporters don't turn up to appreciate what they have available to them. :-??
