Just mystified by the thinking there, i thought they would have wanted to make a few bucks.

I thought that was the whole idea, to give you a free one and then you might hang around and buy 2-3 more

That's our club for you, senseless and clueless.

what did everyone think of young Davis the crows first round draft pick.

I thought he looked extremely ordinary sorry to say NFC.

Why are you aplogising to Norwood ??

probably cos he's a Crow's man JTC. For what it's worth I think Davis will take some time but become a very good footballer.

Not exactly what you want from a first round draft pick IMHO.

Should you not give him a bit of time UKF?

Plus the fact the lad was making his league debut after having major surgery on his shoulder.

Because of this, he has missed a lot of footy in the last 12 months.

I think he will progress nicely into a solid defender at SANFL level and then may be looked at by the Crows from there.

I reckon he needs a good 12 months playing against bigger bodies and find his feet in the league then perhaps Adelaide will look at giving him opportunities in the 2010 Pre Season.

I think your criticism of the lad is a tad unfair and more importantly, way too early UK Fan...

"But did he look James Sellar ordinary"

I think Sellar looks alot better than Davis.

At this stage I would just agree with you...

But Sellar has been in the AFL systrm for 3 years now, has had 4 pre-seasons to bulk his body up and hasn't had any major injuries to deal with (that I am aware of)

Look at Sellar comparitively to Davis to at the same stages of their career and they are probably on par with each other. Most would agree that Sellar has been somewhat dissapointing however, there is probably a bit more hype and expectation on Davis at this stage.

Give it time, I reckon Davis will come out the better player at the end of their respective careers.

Sellar would get a game this week with the crows before Davis, but I thought he looked ok for a kid stepping into league for the first time. Not many kids are even capable of playing SANFL at that age, let alone dominate. SANFL is still a tough comp, even for the most talented kids.

I'm interested in the term 'junk time' used in the reports of this game. I've considered junk time to be that time in the last quarter of a game where the result is clear and some easy goals are scored as the tempo and intensity dissipate. The reports seem to use junk time as a reference to time-on.

Your summation of "junk time" is correct.
What is annoying to North supporters is our ordinary record in "time-on" periods of many games over the last few seasons

Is this a lack of mental strength to be able to perform for the full length of the quarter, not enough fitness to run out the quarters or a combination of both ???

I know in recent performances the Dogs supporters have been frustrated by slow starts but this is made up with bursts late in quarters where the side is able to pile on 3 or 4 quick goals.

I reckon this is something that Daniel Healy is hell bent on changing at North Adelaide. Surely it is more a mind set than the fitness aspect because these guys have trained all pre season and are generally pretty fit athletes.

And of course the last quarter...

Heath Younie snapped a goal half way through the quarter for North to bring the margin back to 3 points in favour of the Dogs.

Then at the 20 minute mark of the final term, Centrals piled on the last 4 goals of the game in the last 6 or 7 minutes of play to run out winners by 28 points.

True true, and North made that crucial error in giving away that blatant shephard free to Matthew Westhoff - who kicked the match sealer.

Give the Dogs a sniff and you're gone.

I have seen that free on video and IMO (and that of the Radio Commentators) all White did was stand his ground, the contact was within 5 metres of the ball coming to Armstrong and it was actually Westhoff who initiated the contact. Crucial time of the game to make a bad call, however North still had time to regroup but couldn't. Like you said - give the dogs a sniff.....

I think the umpire gave the free out of shock damon white made phyisical contact with an opponent.

He is the Nathan bassett of the SANFL. Just running around getting uncontested possesions from half back. Captain Courageous.

and youll seriously defend your captain over anything. Watch the tape. He was loose in defense all day marking nobody. Would have 2 maybe 3 contested possesions for the day. Awesome effort Skip.

Drebin's spot on here. Well kind of, I think you do have more of an idea about the game than you're pretending to have and are just trying to stir, and poorly at that.
I too noticed he was free at the start of the day because Central were only playing 5 forwards.
He could have taken the dumb option and followed his player forward forcing yet another tall to be in North's forward lines clogging it up even more but he elected to play the quarterback role which is creeping into our game and being the backlines coach he wouldn't be much good forward.
He filled a zone making it harder for Central, if he manned up on a player who already had a bloke that player would just drag him and the other North defender out of the game on the flank.
You honestly have no idea when it comes to football tactics my friend. Even if you could count to 6 you would have realised the Dogs defensive tactic.
If you're going to single out a North player who doesn't like physical contests you have picked the wrong one, if you had any idea about the game or watched more North games you'd find at least one that is glaringly obvious and it isn't Damon White.
Stick to an analysis of your own team as I'd hope you have more idea with them seeing them more often.

Speaking of DVDs of footy games.........

I let you two boys argue over this one. All i can say is i agree with wedgie, he was loose in defense all day playing the "quarter back" role racking up uncontested possesions.

Man I have no idea about football.
