Interesting that both Glenelg & Sturt have lost to the Eagles this season , both after getting a 5 goal head start.

The usual outcome? Sounds as if the bays have been up the top for years!

FWIW, I think the Bays will still win the premiership. But, Central have closed in on the top two from what I've seen in the last few weeks. Would Glenelg be a better side without McConnell? It seems he represents all that the bays used to be and not what they're trying to be.

Been a topsy turvy month for the Bays. Good one week, bad the next, but as a few Bay fans have said, we have been unable to play 4 strong quarters pretty much all year. We've been lucky to win a few games and perhaps the 14/4 and second spot is very flattering to some. And I agree at the this point in time.

But I'm sure that a few teams and sour supporters would love 2nd spot going into the finals series...... you know who you are ;-)

Personally. I think the Bays may have run their race. I certainly hope not, but de ja vu is a funny thing with Port at Alberton coming up. I wouldn't be feeling smug at all being a Bay fan

BUT...maybe Rubbers will have the Tigers running on all cylinders towards the finals series. To be 5 goals up and lose by 2 is just unacceptable !

Funny you are writing about a coach who used to coach the Eagles .Seems to me the past repeating its self with Mikans coaching style .
Or am I just getting old

Dont forget the two teams battled out a draw last round last year .Its either a big win or a close game for these two teams .

Hang on a minute Tiger Boss youd be the first to get on a bandwagon about North!

I'd be one of a long queue wanting to stick it up North...but I normally reserve my bashing for when the Bays actually beat North...not when every other side beats North.

Eagles have our measure again and continue to get the Bays in critical matches.

Pseudo wrote:From late in the second, Woodville (sic) played with 100% intensity. Their workrate was simply superior to Glenelg's. Tactically I think Ronny was on top; the Eagles had numbers choking every ball-up and stoppage; they clamped down on Glenelg's ability to clear the ball from the stoppages by throwing in their weight in numbers. I'm very surprised to hear that Glenelg avtually won the clearances.

Conversely Glenelg's forwards had a very, very dirty day. The Bays did manage to wrangle their share of the ball, but the forwards let the team down badly. I can accept spraying shots under pressure, but when all of these miss it's a matter of bad luck... and when players have set shots and miss then it's something else entirely. I wouldn't put all the blame on the forwards... several times a Glenelg player running forwards managed to pick out a Warriors jumper with a handball. And in the second term when that #3 for them took a shot from the boundary line and kicked it wide - where was the defensive pressure after the kick? The sod managed to sprint to the goalsquare and receive a pass from the Eagle who marked the ball with little duress. Slack, Bays. Slack.

It would have been something of a travesty if Glenelg had got up, such was the Eagles' effort. I hope the players are made to watch the video of the second half. That is the sort of intensity they'll be up against in the finals - and that is the sort of intensity they'll be required to dish out.

It all started going pear-shaped for us when we allowed the Eagles easy avenue to goal three or four times late in the second quarter...the momentum they took into the main break had us doubting our ability to close them down, and slowly the Eagles regained the lead and took it to us all over the park.

Underage results from yesterday.
There was doubts that both games would start due to the hard and uneven centre square, but was saved due to people puting water on the places needed.

U17s
Glenelg 7.1 13.8 16.9 22.11.143
Eagles 2.1 4.2 10.3 13.5.83

U19s
Glenelg 1.4 7.10 12.10 12.15.87
Eagles 5.1 10.2 15.7 18.10.118

The intensity and purpose we came out with after half time was superb, and very encouraging.

Yes would agree with that .I thought Grocke's goal from a mark and play on for a long bomb started the Eagles comeback. And Jarrads mark in the pocket kick across goal to dobber and then a specky in the goal sqaure was inspirational .
And I still say the Eagles hard at the body and ball nullified the Tigers run on game .A lot of times 3 to 4 Eagles tackled 1 tiger for ball up after ball up.

Why have the Eagles put that type of performance in so late in the season, when perhaps the year is gone for them?

I thought it was a good sign that the side didn't rely on Passador to kick a bag, and besides McGregor and Petrenko, didn't have a massive reliance on its AFL listed blokes...

Eagles sure know how to get over us...

Why did Glenelg put in that type of performance when top spot was on the line? Why does any team put in any type of performance whenever it is? :?

I am not 100 % sure it was all Rons coaching yesterday .But if the Eagles kicked 4 to 5 goals in the first quarter instead of points the win would have been by more IMHO.

The season is over when the miracles stop and the fat lady is singing.

More a question from me about why the Eagles had their intensity and ferocity back yesterday, when it has been missing for large patches of the season...when we ALL know they have that type of ability to produce a performance such as yesterdays, on a much more consistent basis.

Bays certainly will rue that loss as the chance they had to regain top spot, and avoid getting bashed around by Sturt or Centrals in the first week of finals...still, anything can happen. Dogs may get Sturt in Round 23, Port may upset us next week, and so on...

We know that ! But do the players know that. I would hope that they are hurting ? The last month has been patchy at best for us, and with 2 hard games coming ,the final series does not leave room for any errors.

Well, we've done well to get ourselves in the position for double-chance come finals time...so in essence, there is some small room for errors come finals time...

Top spot is the ultimate reward though, and that is something we really ought to bust our humps to achieve...it is such an advantage to be able to sit back in the first week of finals and watch the two biggest threats to the flag go at eachother...

Slightly off-topic, but I don't think the Minor Premiership would necessarily be an advantage this year, given the closeness of the top 3 teams I think form is the key element.

Well done to the Eag's yesterday (I actually tipped them), reckon they can win their last 2 games and hit the finals with form, not looking forward to facing them next week thats for sure.

Are they really that close ? The way the Bays are playing at the moment, the other two would tear us apart !

The Bays need to really take a good look at themselves, get that " Big Headed " nature out of their systems and focus on the game at hand !

Yesterday's loss was truly p*** poor.

Yeah I think they are mate ... Sturt and Central have had some ordinary performances in recent weeks too.

If I was Glenelg or Sturt I WOULD NOT want a match up with Central in the QF.

In the last 5 seasons

Central have played in every finals series
- 11 finals 10 wins 1 loss

Glenelg 1 finals series
- 2 finals 1 win 1 loss

Sturt 4 finals series
- 6 finals 1 win 5 losses

The Dogs may not have been as dominant as seasons past
BUT they have more winning finals experience in their lineup
than the rest of the competition combined.

NB - Only one loser of the Qualifying final has ever recovered to win the premiership (Sturt 1976).
