Excuse me how teh F*** can it be the biggest sporting event in the world when the Olympics includes teh equiavlent of teh FIFA U/23 world championship - similar Qualifying as World Cup. Whree as the Soccer World Cup excludes half the worlds population, is limited to ~700 particpants (the Finals) and is merely one Sport.
**** in management participation and size teh Olympics dwarfs the Soccer World Cup. Just some SBS bias to try and justify are carp sport to teh rest of Australia.
Yes they might say its big in terms of 30 days of action comapred to 16. But in size of logistics, number of sports participants and people world wide who participate in the sports included in the Olympics (i.e who can potentially qualify for them) the Olympics dwarfs the Soccer World Cup.

Oh, and FIFA has more member nations than the IOC I believe so your point about potential involvement is also rubbish...

That's only due to them being shite at the Olympics, and the IOC are too lazy to get off there arse and recognise them individually ! Why are they recognised individually at the Comm games though, where they are shite also?![]()

If the participants of Soccer (admitedly to U/23) AND the participants of other woldwide popular sports such as Volleyball, Basketball, athletics, Handball, swimming and the other minor sports you listed are qualifying and participating for the Olympics doesn't it make it the biggest event oin teh world especiall as those humans with two X chromosomes are also participating and depending on skill qualifying for De Coubertin's quadrennial little gathering?
Mate the Olympics dwarfs the World Cup both in potential partipants, people who actually participate to qualify for it, the logistics of the event and the cumulative TV audience if you take into consideration all the pre-Olympic Qualifying (As what happens in the Soccer World Cup)
of course FIFA has more recognised member nations when all the home countries of the UK are recognised individually by FIFA and UEFA where it is the UK as a single entity for the Olympics not to mention the tiny European principalities and states (San Marino, Lichtenstein, Andorra etc etc that FIFA articifically recognises to give the appearance of a bigger event...
Ignoramus...

Create a sporting hub with a combined stadium for the soccerites and if the bum sniffers from the NRL have another go at this market, redevelop Memorial Drive for the tennis and build a magnificent stadium on the Adelaide Oval site for Football and Cricket.
In time we might create a new restaurant and entertainment precint on the north side of the Torrens.
It's really not that bloody hard and who knows we might even look like we belong in the 21st century.
