Im just shitty because I had $100 on the Eagles!
Yet another win against the Eagles when we're underdogs, they are our bitch recently, that's for sure.

Thompson and Motlop were possibly the difference, the two quickest players on the ground. Something we used to be renowned for eariler in the decade - pace, with the likes of Darzanos and Holland in the side.

We have pace (Petrenko, Stewart, Jarrad) but they are all played in the back lines!

Who else to put there though? I think we do have one key forward too many, and one permanent key back less. Fitzgerald has got 21 goals now this year (2.6 odd per match) and is doing quite well, but is not overly quick. He's still first choice in the forward line though, great player, and probably Petrenko should be in the other forward pocket.

Fitzgerald is not a star, but developing into a better option than Vinnie was.

Thought we were too top-heavy yesterday - McGregor, Henstschel, Salter, Passador, Grocke, Schwarz plus the two ruckmen. Start of the last quarter worried me with a HF line of Salter, Grocke and Schwarz.

As others have said, the reversal of the free was the turning point. Whoever it was has a lot to answer to the club, supporters included, esp seeing as the North player had already been sucked in to giving us a free.

If you get a chance look at the replay like I did this morning. The mark was definately taken after the siren sounded

I was, I was saying all day tht the Eagles got screwed by the umpires!
As per usual I call it as I see it from an unbiased point of view, a skill very few seem to have.

Was a couple of shockers against North too, especially the one against Clarke but the Eagles definately copped the brunt.
I congratulate you on watching the replaying and detailing instances and examples of incidents that may have made a difference in the game, its that sort of scientific analysis as opposed to factless rants I enjoy.

Watching on the telly at the time, there's no way the umpire could have heard the siren before the mark was taken - no issue with the fact it was paid.

Do people understand the rules at all?
Do people understand the speed of sound is not as fast as the speed of light?
Its when the umpires hear the siren, I was in the outer and it seemed that Younie marked it a full second before the siren went. If you were on the grandstand side it probably sounded like it did on tv, ie a half second before he marked it.
Do the maths and work out when the umpire would have heard the siren from that.

There were some shockers of decisions against the Eagles all day but that decision was 100% correct.

Thankyou wedgie. Like I said I missed the game yesterday because of my young lads birthday. atched the replay this morning and they were a few things I took out of the game. Congratulations on the win and all the best for the remainder of the season - the obvious exception to that is when we meet again at Prospect

Craig Fitzgerald - From Eyre Peninsular. Nephew of John Fitzgerald the tennis player. Did not want to play at port magpies, Eagles paid for his clearance.

quite correct Wedgie but you missed your classic line with that one, It ain't rocket science. On working out where the umpire was standing, the velocity and direction of the wind, plus the crowd noise I worked it out that he would have heard the siren 1.68645 seconds after it sounded

Don't forget though, it is when any field umpire hears it.

Thats interesting, obviously a son of Peter or Ray Fitzgerald, who were both great sportsmen in their own right, both as tennis players, and i think Peter won a few Mail Medals in the Great Flinders Football League for Cummins club, Ramblers.

He didn't have much to beat though. He still produced some terrible turnovers but his last quarter was very encouraging. He looked almost like he belonged and worked really hard. The goal he kicked in the last was a perfect example. He ran from the back pocket to get there and is a credit to him.

Ouch...well done to North but a weak effort from the Eagles as a club. Most North people in the crowd were lamenting their fortunes and seasons prospects for the first 3 quarters and the Eagles had the opportunity to have the game sealed but are simply not good enough in the midfield. Ron Fullers main point after the match was the poor midfield contribution for most of the year and the signs were there last year as well. He was right also when he said it was the fault of the players, coaching staff and match committee. The Eagles will probably make the five, whilst our defence and forwards are pretty good our midfield is outclassed and outworked by Centrals, Glenelg and North by a big margin. Fuller suggested the boys in the middle are going through the motions and sadly we can see this with some poor efforts on crunch balls at crunch times. Recruiting results from a pretty concerted effort this year equal zero after round 9. Biagi - crack recruit sent home thankfully, Mackie - showed a bit but not prepared for the challenge and gone, Gogoll - we should cut our losses now, Couch - a long way off, hopefully can do a Treeby in a couple of years, McEntee is ok, will come back when Kenny goes back to Adelaide next week, Wright injured - wont add what we need but can play, Twomey, always injured and we have plenty his size, Malinovski - may be used in the leage team shortly, Jacky - not classified as a recruit but should be in the seconds as he is awful for us. We do a pretty good job of promoting our juniors but we are behind the pack when it comes to adding one or two really good recuits each year and Centrals are the master at this. Eagles have to re-invent our midfield (with little in reserve) or we will finish a pretty distant fifth. Ferret...I will like to hear your points as you are usually very accurate with your observations.

Few Points

Mark on three quarter siren was ok
Umpires were not fantastic , Eags probably got the worst of it, but it didn't effect the result at any stage.
The two aboriginal lads ( pardon my ignorance and i should by a Budget) gave us an absolute bath , their pace, skills and general enthusiasm was a delight to watch.

Should have stitched the game up in the third quarter but once agian didn't and once again got destroyed in the last quarter.

Passador getting better with age.

Still like the look of the side , need to fix up what goes on in our heads at the three quarter time huddles.

Good to see scotch and coke at $6.50/can , was $8 at Elizabeth.

All betting on horse racing should be suspended at half time in the club rooms, spent half the break waiting for a Pint of pale as more attention given to the $5 each wayers

Sound system was good.

Grog Squad relocation to scoreboard hill ?? We on restrictions fellas?

Perfect weather and again disapointing crowd.

As an unbiased observer I thought that North had the better of the umpiring in the first quarter - they got 2 or 3 goals from frees that were a little doubtful.

Eagles looked the better team in the 2nd and 3 quarters - especially Passadore and his incredible accuracy. Don't understand why he moved out to a flank in the last quarter - was he injured or something? The Eagles need to look at their fitness and on-ball rotation. They just imploded in the last quarter. Still think the Eagles will steady and make the 5.
We used to be good :-(

As we stand behind a bloody great net at Prospect a few of us have decided that we will try and stand more side onto the game when we get a chance so we can actually see the other end of the ground for a change! We still gave the beers a decent workout though!
