Where's Pickett BTW? He looked short of a gallop, to put it mildly, in the five minutes a quarter he played against Norwod last week.

There was one hilarious moment when, believing he was five years younger, he attempted to reprise the "The Enforcer" schtick he's peddled for ages now. He tried to clean up a Norwood player who dodged, collected his own man, got called to the interchange bench and was last seen slowly meandering around the boundary line.

How much are Port paying him this year? :D

Nah, Nah, Not at all...

Just a real character, does things a bit out of left field... Bit of a larrakin. I think at one stage before Christmas, there was a real chance he wasn't going to play SANFL this year so maybe the decision was made then before the club convinced him to play on again. He's a really classic though I kind of know him through a mate and have bumped into him in town a couple of times. Really funny, a larrakin, especially when he has had a couple under him !!!

Hopefully he is back for round 2 against Sturt, really like his class and skill on the footy field...

GO U DOGGIES...

And like most teams Wedgie, we have some quality players either getting fitness in the 2's or waiting to come back from injury...

Must admit, it is nice to hear other teams supporters acknowledge the strength of our team.

North's tea looked good, but again, some quality to come back in as well...

Hope you pump Eagles, I hate tem, especially there uneducated, socially deprived supporters (generalisation, I know...)

you got to see it from his point of view though, he probably didnt expect a trial game on a thursday, and would have had his wedding planned a long time before the trial games were announced.
He probably did it on a thursday as it would have been a bit risky to have it on a weekend during footy season, before he has seen the fixture.

Interesting to see Port name CHOPPY in the Bs, i honestly thought missing so much training they'd still name him in the As. Tim must of called the shots on that one & got tougher as no doubt the selectors would of had him pencilled in regardless. good to see he's not thought as invincible, Centrals would be very happy not having to face the CHOPPERS bruising hip & shoulder, i bet the only Gowan thats playing is relieved!
Should be a good game regardless & i'm tipping Port by 2pts.

On a side note great to see Central promoting the game this Saturday night. At the centre for late night shopping Ian Callinan, Chad O'Sullivan, Brodie Hudson and Trent Goodrem were handing out everything from match tickets to scarves to bangers and stickers and footballs to everyone who walked past.
It was like grand final week with hundreds of kids and teenagers wearing Central gear on all around the centre. At one stage there would have been 50-60 people trying to get signatures and talk to the players. Add to that the massive billboard advertisment on Main North Road near Parafield gardens and all the council lights advertising the game im expecting the magic 10,000 if the weather holds off.
Once again the Dogs leading the way in promoting the SANFL

Choppy wouldn't have even caught Chris (and that's saying something, he isn't that quick...) - why would he be scared of him?

Methinks that the Choppy of 4 years ago is just a mythological creature nowadays and his impact on the SANFL will be very limited unless he shows it some respect and stops expecting it will be a cash cow with no training to end his career on.

Very biting on Choppers there ;)

I remember facing him in Samboy Cup. I'd like to say I cleaned him up. But we all know that didn't happen.

Just commenting on what I have seen/heard of his attitude - the SANFL isn't an easy comp to play well in and I reckon he'll find that out pretty soon.

For those that haven't read the paper and are interested, he is our reserves team :

Baldwin, Barmby, Brading, Cole, Duncan, Giles, Hadden, Hudson, Matson, McGrath, McShane, Musolino, Officer, O'Hara, O'Sullivan, Porter, Sharpe, Stengle, M.Westhoff, Whiley, White, Woods

I predict Spurr & Moss to come into this team, off the extended interchange named for the league.

Interesting to see Port Magpies have told Bryon Pickett to find some fitness and form in the 2's ?

Bring on tomorrow evening...

The reality is that if Byron Pickett was the player of 4 years ago he wouldn't be in the SANFL. He'd still be with the power in fact. He has slipped that far that he's gone from first choice AFL star with the top team in the country to struggling to even crack the first 21 of a team that would struggle to make the top 30 teams in oz. I have no doubt that if Pickett gets himself fit enough he would be good enough for AFL, but obviously not even Melbourne think that will happen. Round 1 2008 Byron Pickett would have to worry about John Cahill running off him, while Scott Bamford would probably be able to run through him (unfortunately we won't get to see either of those events this season though). I can't see this changing within the next month or even 2. However, if Pickett sorts himself out and even gets close to reasonable form midway through the year, James Allen better have a good lead in the MM because Byron COULD be far too good for this comp.

If = not likely. As for him possibly being far too good for this comp, I don't think so. I could think of a dozen players better than him playing in the SANFL plus he has had all summer to get right for round one and he is in the Ressies 'cause he lazy and not committed and getting by on a past reputation something the top SANFL players don't suffer from.
