How did Nick Malinovski go for the Eags, was a real goer at Westies and I liked him but probably wasnt consistent enough at times, he kicked 5 against the rooosters once

And also the biggest in numbers and most colourful.
No need to sterotype reddenwhites, sure there is some undesirables in the SCS (ALL clubs have them) but people like Begbie do a fantastic job organising scenes that is pictured below.
If you think this image is bad for the SANFL then I think you're sadly mistaken.

Nup, I took it and it was one of the 2 games I went to at Unley (Sturt v North or Sturt v Port), think it was the Port game?
Took it from next to the scoreboard.

Must admit Ive heard some horror stories about the Sturt CS but I personally have never had an issue with them, I always make a point of taking a photo of them at Sturt games because Smithy's on the money that they're the most colourful cheer squad in the league, its always great seeing those floggers out.

as a sturt supporter that has been to sparatic games over the past 21 years i have seen some avergae displays of Cheers Squad support. The Centrals and Port cheer squads head the list as ferrals but each cheer squad has its members that are there to actually support its unfortunate that people tag along from the bar and cause trouble just for the sake of it..... i was at that pictured game and the support for both teams was excelent(as it should be)

Central's don't have a cheer squad as such, just some mates that go end to end, I actually get along with them quite well, have walked past them and chatted to a couple of times when we're getting flogged and no probs.
Mind you Ive also spent some time chatting to some old school Central end to enders who have no time for the current mob.
Port are feral but harmless. Ive taken photos of them when they're getting flogged 2 metres away in their face and haven't had one thing thrown at me yet.
Maybe Im feral and they don't turn on their own though!

Couldn't agree with you more Wedgie...

All cheer squads from ALL teams are generally pretty good, it's just the odd couple of THUGS or FERRALS that get a few bevvies into them and then cause kaos. I used to be in the Centrals cheer squad in the late 90's to early 2000's and again, yes, you would get a couple of bad ones, but all in all they were great and someone would always know someone else from the opposition cheer squad. A bit of banter might go on as they pass each other but it's friendly fire.

There are a couple of rough nuts in the Sturt cheer squad that actually beat up on a disabled Centrals supporter a few years ago at Unley. that was pretty poor, but again, to be expected when you mix passionate footy supporters and grog !!

As a Doggis supporter, I think our younger breed of Cheer Squad are a bit rowdy, but it's probably the case with most teams. The Doggies Squad are now famous for annoying use of flares come Grand Final time, but with their flags and banners, they exude great colour, passion and then that mighty CEEENNTRAAALSS cheer they drum out is great... :D :D

GO U DOGGIES !!!  :)

Well said Wedgie, and thanks for the regular photos you have taken of the SCS over the past couple of seasons.
Yeh, I have read a couple of rotten stories about a couple of dickheads that have attached themselves to the Sturt Cheer Squad. Last I read was that at least one of them has been banned from matches at the "House". But overall I think the SCS looks great. Floggers and flags were always a part of the footy in the old days, and their continuing presence is something that defines SANFL as more special than just grass roots. It is great to see the passion is still alive, as represented by the colour they bring to the matches. So thanks to the majority, I look forward to seeing more pictures of them this coming year.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

i agree they have a bad rep as far as some forms of there supporters. personally think that flares are not needed in our game they are assocted with soccer and houliganism.... i have witnessed centrals (not cheers squad but the Mob at one end) heating coins with a lighter and using gloves and throwing them into other teams cheer squads. Things like this make the thought come into your head "are they there to support Centrals or jump on a bangwagone(very successful one at that) and cause trouble in numbers"

Totally agree, Wedgie. Every Club has inappropriate ferals.

Saw a few at Coopers last year when the Legs played Central District.

They were appropriately evicted by SANFL Security.

When Sturt won against North at Unley, our Squad acted totally professionally, despite North's great comeback, (thanks to Gill,) in the last term.

Bratton's a good player who'll challenge for a spot in the League 21 against Norwood.

Looking forward to the Doggies clash at HHEO on Saturday.

You couldn't have a more loyal Sturt player than Weatherald.

Whether he makes our Opening 21 against the Redlegs is a 50/50 situation.

Bratton is a hard worker and loves playing at Unley after a big decision to leave his mates at the legs.... would be good to see him get a regular crack

agreed along with Thredgold wethers has been great for strurt and has helped developed the younger lads eg. hurley

would be good to see him stay on at the club after he finihses playing
