I will laugh if they get under 29000. Then we will see and hear the excusses!

Cant blame Woodville West Torrens for that!! :?

I think that the crowd is about as good as it is ever going to get.The long weekend is another factor that will always affect the crowd numbers along with a live telecast. However the TV ratings would have been very good with at least 50000 watching the game on TV.

2005 could be considered and aberation because of the ordinary weather.

In 01, 06 and 07 prelim final has been on long weekend. Not going to get to many "neutrals" to plan their long weekend around prelim, but they might around GF.

Don't start that old game again bayman. The Eagles had a great following at the PF. You can't always just assume it's the eagles poor support.

Haha. You honestly think the crowd being low had nothing to do with your pathetic support base?

At least we know something about being there on PF day. NFC you wouldn't know about that because it's been years since your legs have been in finals let alone a PF. Chalk up another pathetic post for NFC.

How many do you honestly think at the game yesterday were Eagles fans or at least a percentage of the crowd? It was a terrible turnout IMO from Eagles fans. There were more of you at the qualifying final.

with an Adelaide team in AFL grand final yesterday and slowdown tomorrow and direct Telecast and 4 radio stations covering - seems to me to be an acceptable crowd. Yes would love more as we all would but lets be reasonable in assessment.
Criticise us for a small supporter base if you wish but growing membership and on field success is what i'd rather be judged on.

Gold CD absolute gold. I'm so sick of naysayers on this site criticising us on our supoort or lack of it. What we have is a very loyal band of supporters unlike other clubs who have a high bandwagon element.

Just like there were no excuses for your bays not playing on PF day again. Maybe you have a right to start criticising us bayman when and if your gaybays can make the 2nd last day of the season.

That's gold Dissident. But in NFC's defence his team has waited along time to play in finals so when september comes he's bored and has nothing better to do than bate everyone on safooty. It's a shame because safooty would be better without the norwood tosser.

North definately had the bigger supporter base. I wouldn't like to hazzard a guess as to what the split was. Walking into the ground I was excited to see plenty of blue, green and gold. I thought we would have equalled what we had for the QF. All we are saying is that there is many elements to blame for the poor attendance but everyone jumps to the conclusion it's the Eagles and their poor supporter base. It's a cop out and a lot of carp.

we have no excuses the eagles were a little too good last week, & i'd like to bet that most north fans were happy to play the eagles rather than glenelg

I dont like to bump this as Im sick of the Eagles thing also, however was thinking about it today....I know absolutely stacks of Eagles fans (old WT to be exact) but most of them only go to the occasional game, I dont really know why but I feel that deep down the merger did cost them some of the identity and it allowed them an excuse to do other things....there is heaps of potential out there for CD and the board if they can somehow tap into these people, but it can become a generational thing with their kids now no longer having a SANFL team.....I think the bottom line is no matter how well a merger takes place you will lose 20-30% of your base through various reasons....

Yeah I used to know dozens of Torrens fans who were friends with my step dad who was a Torrens fan, they went to the occasional game in the early 90s but dropped off and took more interest in the Crows.
My step dad loves his Eagles but hasn't been to a game since the merger but still watches all their games on TV.

Got to agree with Dutchy and Wedgie

Of my friends and family the Eagles are one of the most supported teams - for those that follow SANFL

I know hundreds of Eagles supporters, just don't know too many that go to games more than once every couple of years.

Interesting to note that at the start of the 1964 season, to quote SANFL figures, the big 3 in terms of crowds were PA,n and WT.
I could list numerous reasons for the decline since then. There is a lot of latent support out there for the Eagles but it is not translating through the gates.
It would be interesting to see the % of ABC viewers that barrack for the Eagles. I suspect it may be quite healthy.

Well, seeing that people said there were twice as many Glenelg supporters there as Eagle supporters, I was guessing there must have been about 3000 as the Eagles generally get about 1500.
