If that is the case, expect Westhoff to play. He would be talked round. However, I am pretty sure Port made the decision.

Either that, or he may feel emotionally spent.

Westhoff seems a decent guy, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't want to take the spot of one of his Central team mates who have been there all year. I don't think it really matters if Westhoff plays or not. His form isn't good and as bdp says, he could be emotionally spent.

Port Adelaide prodigy Justin Westhoff has been ruled out of Sunday's SANFL grand final.

Despite reporting no injury from Saturday's AFL grand final, the Central District draftee will not play for the Bulldogs against North Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

"Westhoff won't be playing," Power operations manager Peter Rohde said.

"We sat down and had a chat about it last week really and we confirmed it again (yesterday). He won't be available."

A visitor in Central's changerooms after the Dogs' win against the Roosters in the second semi-final a fortnight ago, Westhoff will be held back to prepare for 2008.

"He hasn't played there (Central) for 15 weeks so he doesn't feel he has been largely a part of it," Rohde said of the 21-year-old.

"He's had a long, hard year and he's pretty tired at the end of the season so we're keen to give him a rest and get him prepared for next year.

"He's taken a hell of a lot of workload for a bloke who has played in his first full year of senior footy.

"He's played in the forward line and got a fair bit of attention every week so he's been battered and knocked around a bit."

Central coach Roy Laird - who declared his interest in playing Westhoff in The Advertiser yesterday - took the decision on the chin, adding he was pleased to have Port's Brad Symes return.

"(Westhoff) is not made available to us but in saying that we're rapt with the 21 we'll go into the game with," Laird said. "It's excellent to have Symes back.

"Even before their (AFL) grand final, some of our players wished him luck and he'd still been indicating he was looking forward to coming back with us the following week."

The Roosters won't have Damon White to select, the Power-listed forward is still struggling to overcome a thigh strain.

And the future of Nathan Lonie, a Power emergency for Saturday's AFL grand final, should be known today. Devastated at missing selection for the AFL title decider against the Cats, Lonie is expected to meet with North coach Andrew Jarman to discuss his intentions.

"We certainly want him to play in the grand final, he played well against the Eagles when we played them in the qualifying final," North operations manager James Moore said.

"We need to tick the box that Nathan wants to play and if we do then we'll certainly play him."

If Lonie declares he wants to play, Port will not stand in his way.

North Adelaide coach Andrew Jarman faces an agonising decision on his captain Darryl Wintle.

Does Wintle, much admired among the Rooster faithful, front Central District in the grand final at AAMI Stadium on Sunday?

That is the decision Jarman must ponder with Wintle desperate to prove he has shrugged off a hamstring problem which has sidelined the midfielder since round 22.

Wintle has played limited football in an injury-plagued season but will be given every opportunity to convince selectors he can survive the rigours of a premiership decider.

"Darryl has put his hand up for selection but he must complete the main session tomorrow night to be considered," Roosters football manager James Moore said.

"He has trained for the past two weeks at about 75 per cent. Jars (Jarman) is one of those blokes you can build up credits and he will repay players. Darryl has a lot of credits in the bank."

The Roosters, bouyant after conquering last year's champion Woodville-West Torrens in the preliminary final on Sunday, are hopeful of including pacy Nathan Lonie after he missed Power selection for the AFL decider.

Leigh Ryswyk, whose pace and ball-carrying skills have been a valuable weapon for the Roosters, has definitely been ruled out of the grand final.

Scans on Friday revealed the thigh injury which has kept him out of the finals has not repaired.

Chris Ladhams has already been declared a definite starter despite limping out of Sunday's game late in the final quarter with a knee problem.

The Roosters had a recovery session at the beach yesterday and Ladhams, who kicked a trademark skilful goal from 45m and deep in the Adelaide Oval pocket in the last term against the Eagles, jogged and did some kicking.

North had a light session at AAMI Stadium last night with the likes of James Allan and Clint Alleway having their first run on the ground. They'll train again tomorrow night and Friday.

The BULLDOGS, fresh after just one game in four weeks, trained for 90 minutes at Elizabeth yesterday.

Classy onballer Brad Symes was a spectator after playing in the AFL grand final for the Power on Saturday but the rest of the squad looked sharp in an enthusiastic workout.

He is in no doubt for Sunday's clash and is expected to join in tomorrow night's session at AAMI Stadium. The Bulldogs, who had the bye in the final minor round and then the first round of the finals as reward for being minor premiers, were put through a tiring workout on Saturday.

A bad omen I've noticed is the douibt over Daryl Wintle's availability.

Last year we had the drama over Colville (who didn't play), then in 2002 there was the drama over Thredgold (who didn't play). We lost both of those GFs......

Wintle plays, we win.

He doesn't, dare I say it, we lose...

But with Laird coaching in the season after losing a GF, we gave gone on to win 3 in a row on 100% of occasions.
