The Sleeping Giant wrote:Well I for one was very happy with North participating, and the way they used the Foxtel cup. Gave a heap of younger lads and fringe footballers a taste of senior footy, and a couple of them have grabbed their chance. The results of the 2 games after Norths Foxtel cup games were a narrow loss to Centrals at Elizabeth and a win against Glenelg. No harm at all. Hopefully, next year the 5-6 teams that finish above North decline to play in the comp again.

And if that was your sole intention from the start, with anything else a bonus, then that's a good thing.

All 3 SANFL clubs rested players and fielded weakened sides when they could have gone all the way. Port especially annoys me because they claimed they wanted to win the comp but they send a ressies team over to Perth. If Summerton,Dolling and Maric played they would have beat Claremont and had a chance of hosting the Grand Final.

BIG STATEMENT. I'm certain Harder, Biasci, Miekeljohn, Lokan, etc would take issue with the fact that Summerton, Dolling and Maric are the only League players in the Port side

Fact is, Clayton came in for Summerton and Maric was AFL emergency. Yes Dolling was rotated, so he must be quite the match-winner in this case.

Must admit, Im not convinced the rested players would have given Port the extra required to win the game.

Basically they suffered from a poor start which always put them behind the 8-ball - As you expect from Port they remained plucky, and but for some skill errors in transition (particularly up forward) they could almost have pinched it. You just knew when you saw an unlucky bounce near their goal and then a fortuitous one up the other end, that it wasn't going to be their day.

Really impressed with Milera (not sure which one) again.

Funny. Port cop it from pillar to post about seemingly sitting on our hands regarding the financial state of the club, yet, when we see what we think is a sound opportunity to expand our "brand" ( I hate using that term ), develop our young playing list and potentially win some prize money we get nothing but criticism for doing so.

The Foxtel Cup offered many potential benefits and from what we saw in the initial offering, few draw backs. I'm glad we got involved.

Reasonable crowd at Alberton on Saturday afternoon to watch it too.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

Sure, it was a poor statement and I will retract it.
Better words would have been "an experience they wouldn't otherwise have had the opportunity of."

ON FIELD DISCUSSION

Perhaps we should talk about the games in the Off Field Discussion topic as the trolls are intent on being here no matter how many separate topics we give them to stay/sook in.

Move it to the other topic and leave this topic for ON FIELD happenings or it will be deleted from now on, that is all.

Great win by the Tiges on Saturday. Only ever played the Magpies twice the last one 40 years ago. Same result a win.

The GF against Williamstown will be hard. Need to be on our game from the word go. A fast start in all three games has set the wins up for us.
As seen in the games against the Bullants & the Magpies when the opposition had played the press they slowed Claremont down.
If Williamstown start with the press it will be a close game but Claremont have been impressive in all three of their games.

GO CLAREMONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.
