Good gutsy win by the Eagles today. The game was a tight tussle for the first three quarters. I thought Sturt were just about ready to run over us in the 3rd, but we held on and kicked a couple of late goals and were unlucky not to snatch the lead on the 3 quarter time siren. Great last quarter. The continual pressure was too much for Sturt once again and the flood gates opened. It was pleasing to see Sam Fairclough lead the way in the last with a great tackle and pass to set up the first goal and then a snap goal to give us all the momentum. Invaluable to get some league game time into Inkster and McKenzie and we can only improve. Only sour part of the day was a hammy to Salter early and to see North get up over Central.

I found it hard to pick best players. It was a solid contribution by the likes of Powell, Lomas, Treeby, Cicolella, Jarrad, Dabrowski, Schwarze and Stewart which saw us over the line. Special mention to Hier as well who kept at Chambers all day and won the battle in the 2nd half.

I thought the pressure shown today was superb again. Both sides actually, Sturt being 1000% better than this time last year. But we were able to keep pressing until a break came in the last quarter. Jarrad once again being up there in the best players, but Aerie is spot on in that it was an even contribution. Colville looks pretty fit, McKenzie while not being at the top of his game (understandable though) will have gained valuable game time today. I thought Fairclough would be up there in the best players too.

Another beauty of a long goal from Jarrad, this time starting at the interchange gates, at full pace after two bounces, goals around 50, from a 45 degree angle. I think people underrate this guy a bit, he is a star in this line up now.

Agree spelly, that goal by Jarrad was sensational. He seems to pull something out of the hat every game and could be a smokey for the Magarey.

Watched the last quarter of the reserves today and kept a close eye on Staple for the first time. Geez, can he play! Doubt we'll see much of him because with his size he's sure to attract AFL attention. There is some talent in that team though and good for them to mix with the experience of Passador, Pedler, Hall etc.

What a game yesterday .The pressure was great by both sides.I would think having that hard tough game against Centrals helped the Eagles no end.Last Saturday the Eagles weathered the storm then could not go on in the last term.Yesterday they weathered the storm and then Charged leaving Sturt behind.
Highlights would be Flash's goal running along the wing and burning Feast off. Also in that third term I saw some great team lifting play by Powell(i think)he beat two Sturt Players and took off with the ball .you know the old 2 on 1 trick he should have been beaten but he wasn't.
I thought for his 150 th match big red was having a bad day and that hand ball in the square then the siren going was the icing on the cake for his bad day.And some umpiring decisions did not help the big man.
But I think the little to do  that happened afterwards may have been the turning point in the match. Not sure which Sturt player pulled big Swharze to the ground but I am pretty sure they woke him and the rest of the Eagles up.
Other highlights young Sam Faircloughs game was great his goal kicking was little off until the last quarter.Inkster and macca back in the team getting match fitness. And inkster looked almost like the inkster of old in the final term.

And Aerie I agree about you with young Staples but i think he is still a bit green .From the start of the year the two's have improved some of the EAGLEs youngsters are coming on in leaps and bounds.Along with Staples the names of Pavlich,Hicks,Pretenko Daveron could be on the lists of aFL talent scouts. To bad yesterdays seconds match was not on TV was a very good example of not giving up with a gutsy come from behind win by the EAGLES.
And both games showed Sturt have trouble kicking straight for Goals!!
Go you mighty Eagles.

Good win by the Reserves and League yesterday.
Looking at the scores, I believe it was similar to the Central game last week, in that it was close all day, with the winning team kicking the last couple.

Another gutsy win by the boys again yesterday. Sturt really took it up to us like most expected. it was good to get the 2 points and keep the pressure on Sturt and North. I thought Jarrad's game was awesome as was Hier on Chambers I thought he cut his influence on the game. Mckenzie was servicable and Colville looked better in his 2nd outing. Add Tim Inkster to that mix as he'll only improve on yesterday's effort and things are all of a sudden looking up leading into the finals. You'd have to say there would be some nervous teams looking on at those ominous signs shown by the might of the EAGLES. 8)

Eagles 15.8.98 def Sturt 12.11.83.
Close game in the finish, but I think the Eagles were up by about 5 goals at one stage, so perhaps the Blues got a few back in garbage time? Frustrating game to follow from outside SA, coverage was limited to updates over the internet. Frustrating also that we couldn't get that Eagles monkey yet again. But by the sounds we really made them work for most of the game and we must have learnt a bit about them in the process. Before the game I thought that the Eagles had more to play for than us. They can hardly afford to drop a game from here to get the double chance, and we'd have to drop just about every game to miss out, so I wouldn't be surprised if we MacGowan experimented a bit yesterday. Anyway, losing to the Eagles is a bit like taking a crap with the pants on, so I hope we can turn it around from here. I don't buy into the "we've done enough for the year" routine because everyone thought we'd finish bottom. The Blues have to focus on the big prize now. To rest on the laurels because we had a better than expected season is a waste of effort, all teams are in it for the same ultimate goal, and we have done well to manouver into a position where we may just be a chance, against all odds. I hope we atone for this loss in the name of building toward the bigger prize.
Well done Eagles, obviously had all the answers at exactly the right time.
Go you Blues!
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

That was not my point Eagle has landed .The two Eagles teams won with no AFL listed players Playing .When the EAGLES beat GLenelg there were no AFL listed players in the seniors but the two power listed players in the two's.

So yesterday no AFL listed players and both grades won .No depending on AFL talent. Once again can anyone answer my question. :D

Top game for 3 quarters - great pressure footy from both teams in blustery conditions. Then the Eagles showed why they are the Premiers - couldn't believe how they lifted a notch so superbly in the last. Sturt have a hard run home and will be doing very well to finish in the top 3 with the Eags and Norf snapping at their heels. It's going to be a fascinating run into the finals that's for sure.
