All things being fair if Clinch got 5, Adam should get at least 10.

just a note, this will more than likely herald the end of Symes footy career, unfortunately. Was lucky to be playing this year.

A shame. Good player and a good bloke.
Ironically I met him at a Starlight Foundation Ball organised by Adam Grockes lovely mother Margaret!

I don't know what Clinch did but I believe the outcome of the Kane-Gallagher incident from last year should guide the tribunal's decision. Gallagher had just marked the ball and Kane made no attempt to pull up and in fact raised his forearm striking Gallagher in the head. Gallagher was knocked unconcious, stretchered off and from memory may have missed 1-2 weeks from the injury

How many games did Kane recieve? Grocke should receive the same plus whatever penalty applies for his poor record at the tribunal.

It is extremely sad to hear that Syme's injury may force him to retire but I don't believe that should have any influence on the tribunal's outcome. If he was playing with the knowledge that one more head knock/concussion could end his career then that is a risk he alone was taking. You cannot have a situation where a hit on Player X attacts a certain amount of games whereas exactly the same hit on Player Y attracts three times the penalty just because he is one hit away from forced retirement.

Grocke will get what is deserved at the tribunal but the decision should be made free from emotion and looked at in isolation.

Much will depend if it is decided whether the conduct is intentional or reckless. Impact will be severe and contact high. It would be a striking charge.

If intentional it will go to tribunal, in which case it could be anything.

If reckless, 425 + 10% for 1 game suspension in last 3 years, plus 92.5 carry over points, less 20% for early guilty plea which would equal 4 games and 60 odd carry over points.

That is what Kane got. I agree, they were very similar incidents.

No he won't. He'll get off because life isn't fair and nice guys finish last. He only hit a Centrals player, don't remember the last suspension for that.

Brad Symes stranded on 99 games for the club now. No justice in the world at all. Symes gets life and Grocke gets to play on.

Remember, you heard it here first.

Agree Groucho and given the way the SANFL operates I've no doubt that the MRP will view the Collier/Ainger collision and cite Collier for negligent high contact and give him a two match suspension.

Sanflfirst wrote:Was pretty hard not to miss both incidents yesterday. The Ainger/Collier collision was just great honest football with both players focussed on the ball. I thought the Centrals players were congratulating the attack on the ball not the injury to Ainger. The big difference between the Collier/ Ainger incident and the Grocke/Symes incident was the intent of the player. If Collier was intent on purely taking the player as Grocke was, then Ainger would probably have shared the bed next to Symes in hospital last night. There is no excuse for Grockes gutless attack on the player as seen yesterday. I thought that type of crap was long gone from our great game. Will be interesting to see what the SANFL does with this. IMHO Grocke should get a minimum 6 weeks penalty. If this puts him over the 16 week de-registration threshold then so be it. My gut feeling is that the SANFL will do another Parry like deal though.

I thought it was Symes on Ainger so I was wrong
Wont condone what Grocke did and to say the SANFL will let him off is just as stupid . He will go and be gone for the maximum number of weeks !!
And I think the umpire in control should also be gone for a long time !! He paid a free to Ainger for that collision called play on awarded centrals a free while Ainger appeared knocked out laying comatose on the ground .
Then stopped play
Result of league game Ainger out for a reported 5 weeks Symes out for ever if the centrals fans are right .And grocke should get life as well

And in the seconds another Eagles player was taken from the ground on a stretcher with a head injury due to a players legs another accidental collision , And the player was reported !!

What a spiteful game at oval ave , like the old days !!

So they should if they are consistent Centrals player was reported in the seconds for something similar end result of that was Eagles player off on stretcher !!

So minus the incidents lets talk about this game !!
Centrals started fast out the blocks kicking with a strong wind had two goals on the board . Eagles kicked the next seven !! Centrals came back in the third was it due to the wind or did the eagles stop !!
Eagles steadied in the last and ran out the game as winners
Luke Powell lifted towards the end of the third term .Macgregor was the difference in the end 6 goals from a small forward (thank u Glenelg)!!
Also Eagles had a bit more pace than the dogs ie that Centrals player in the orange boots and blonde dreds was caught several times in the back lines !!Resulting in scoring shots !!

MJ, I take offence at being called stupid. I am entitled to have an opinion and previously players have not been suspended when they should have been. Were you one of the Eagles fans who cheered when Symes was poleaxed?

Not necessarily ... Central could name him to start on the bench in a dead rubber game late in the season. Let him on for a 5 minute stint in the pocket once the result is beyond doubt, and butter up the ump to give him a dodgy free kick so he can celebrate his 100th and final game with a goal. 8)
