For the majority of the last 2 weeks, pressure on the opposition has been poor, letting players run free too easily. It also seems that some players are lacking confidence that was there earlier in the season...

...Whilst our best team might be a top 3 contender, any team will most likely have injuries at any point in time so will rarely have their best team on the field - sometimes its not how good your best 21 players are, but how good players 22-30 are.

There appeared to also be some tired bodies so the week off looks like it has come at the right time.

We're missing quite a few at present. Looks like you get your true reality check the week following the state game. :D :D

Westies showed some promising stuff last week against us, but their heads and persistence dropped off after half time. Sounds like this one was similar to their Norwood game.

Great for the comp to see a resurgent, competitive West Adelaide.

well if west played with the same committment, desire, hardness & lift the skill level a bit they could well be knocking on the door of the 5, i was very impressed with morris & how that shirtfront was a free is beyond me, west have definately made some improvement

as for robert shirley this was the lowest act i've seen in sanfl football since the 1991 grand final, i thought i was watching a wrestling match when that low act tackle was committed, ffs it is outlawed in rugby league, personally i'd give him 5-7 matches to send a message to every player & if it cost him his 'job' at the crows well stiff & lets just hope that young fisher comes out of this 110%

a question for the lawyers could fisher sue shirley for this low act ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

It's also interesting to note that West, with eleven senior listed AFL players in Adelaide, had none playing for them yesterday.

We had no regular ruckman, with young Marc Borholm, at 191cms and playing his 2nd league game, doing very well against the State ruckman.

We lost Matthew Barber to a season-ending knee injury in the 3rd quarter and then had Ben Fisher, who had been starring, taken off on a stretcher, totally limiting our options for the last quarter.

For the statisticians and others on here, Jimmy Ezard had 35 possessions, but had an amazing 19 ball gets.

Along with the West Adelaide crowd, I was proud of the way our boys played.

I have read any other quotes re this match .but here is my thoughts very quickly

Serious questions need to be asked about the Eagles selection committee .why were all the in and under players playing in the two's ?
the Rob shirley incident happened right in front of me and I missed it .
But my lad said it was a cross between a bubba bomb and a black hole slam should get a few weeks unless the crows want him.

congrats Westies you wanted the ball more and your effort showed with a gutsy win.........

our boys....we have some serious midfield/onball problems particularly pace....

but take Passador, Salter, McKenzie, Powell, Redden out of any league side and you will have problems.......

some of these boys will be back after the break......

Not blaming injuries for the loss though are we Eagles fans?

No not blaming injuries mate - I'm just saying our season's hopes aren't gone yet based on quality of players that we have coming back into the side. I mentioned that we were beaten by a more committed, tougher unit mate.

I highly doubt you have 11 Adelaide based AFL players - if so name them.

Dutchy I am beginning to think its more to do with team selection at this stage .Why all the in and under players have been dropped to the seconds for the last two weeks .And why Ron and the panel have swapped them for ball receivers !!!!
And why we try and play Lane and Jacky in the same team they both play the same spot .With Lane getting little game time why are we doing that .
Eagles yesterday were beaten by
1 a team that was faster
2 a team that could get the ball out of centre
3 a foward line that was actually working
4 Collins out coached Fuller

IMHO
Dawson,Cullen,Cheep,Cica, Rimington,Banner and others need to come in.
And why can the crows say Hentschell plays a half next time a full game .then play him in the league .

And another IMHO with the seconds doing so well Jeffries is doing everything correct to take the next step up next year.

On a lighter note is was great to meet so many Westies Sa footy members yesterday.

It's probably a silly question but i'll ask it anyway.

If Robert Shirley is suspended for say 3-4 games, are the Crows
1/ allowed to appeal the suspension
2/ just disregard the suspension and play him in the AFL as they see fit due to him being there employee.
3/ ask the SANFL for special permission to have him be allowed to play in the AFL only.

Lamentable display by the Eagles. West should have won by 40+ points. At present, our onball division is the worst in the league, we lack system going forward, are too slow and are badly missing a key forward. We have to have our best 21 on the park to be competitive.
I also believe that we don't have the personnel at the moment to play the 1 on 1 style of footy Fuller demands. We have too many players in the side that aren't capable of beating their opposition therefore 1 on 1 just doesn't work!
In after the state game (which has come at just the right time) must be McKenzie, Fitzgerald and Cicollela at least. Out - Hicks, Daniel and Jacky minimum.

Definitely some wholesale changes are needed.

Out: Hicks, Miles, Hill, Lane, Davoren, Daniel, Schultz, Corbett (possibly Shirley out suspended)
In: McKenzie, Rimington, Fitzgerald, Cicolella, Dawson, Staple, Fairclough, R Fiacchi (possibly Hentschel to come in)

Team:

F: Cicolella Hentschel Dawson
HF: Westbrook Grocke Fitzgerald
C: Rimington McKenzie Allmond
HB: Jarrad McGregor Stewart
B: P.Fiacchi Hier R.Fiacchi
R: Dabrowski Broadbent Treeby
I: Fairclough Staple Jacky

Grocke and McGregor might need to be used as 2nd ruckman when Dabrowski needs a break.

1, it would have to be wwt that would have to appeal presuming the appeals process is still in vogue, as for the crows no
2, they can't do that because all league are affiliates/reciprocol to each other (REMEMBER THE MARK VISKA SUSPENSION)
3, no it is for the same reason as number 2, also every bloke that gets suspended & found guilty can play sanfl, vfl, wafl etc etc turn it up it would open up the proverbial can of worms

fwiw i think he'll get 5-7

I would find a place for Cheep he does good work in the packs (well he did against Sturt and was dropped for it) and a stop for Banner .Cullen could be the second ruckman and also used up forward if needed.
Sometimes I think Grocke is lucky to be in the team and then he will kick the odd goal out his backside like yesterday .
Westbrook has been down but he did stand up yesterday .
And Rons party trick didnt work yesterday with kenny mac .It only works when the ball comes in fast and quick.

SANFL tribunal will continue to be a joke just watch and see .
