Half the goals kicked in the league come from turnovers in other parts of the ground

A for the breeze, the windsock was sheltered by trees and changed direction all day. I had a few kicks on the ground (not very well) and can guarantee you that it favoured the northern end strongly, as everyone else at the ground could clearly see.

As for Davenport, his first half was great. I think most player's possessions are part of their team's pattern.

Find it in yourself to eke out just a little credit for a good player, even if he doesn't play for Glenelg.

bayman, I don't agree with everything you've said, but it's a pretty fair summing up

they were all turnovers from our defence in our defensive halfs rom which west directly scored goals.
cant see how the windsock couldve been doing that but if others say it was i will concede it must have been.
i have given credit to teh west players that i thought were good and had a positive influence for your team - davenport apart from his goals wasnt doing much that was constructive but as you say that can partly be because of the fact his teammates werent doing the right thing with all the handballs and short kicking. maybe he should be played further up the ground like cupido and try harder to win matches by playing matchwinners in aggressive positions

I know the half time score shown at Alberton turned a few heads, but it is more evidence that West are on the improve.

Well as an indication of what teh clu thought of today's performace by league side today only 3 awards given out. Ususally its five and occasionally for a really good performace it is six (aka that night at Norward last year).

Best at the club was Ty Allan followed by Ben Kane and Matty Duldig.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Once again our intensity was excellent for so much of the game but we are not quite able to do it for the whole game.

As stated previously our skill level was not/is not up to standard but IMO saying that the only reason the bloods were in the game was because Glenelg played poorly is a joke and you need to stop jerking your gerkin.

You were forced to go sideways backwards and make rushed decisions because we harrassed the daylights out of you and Glenelg was found wanting, it happened to the bays in the last game of the year from memory too.

It was more that the bloods had a few lapses in the last 3 quarters and as soon as we took the pressure off Glenelgs quality shone through and you were able to score too easily.

And to say the umpires deliberatly cheated and cost us the game is a gerkin jerk as well, yes the were soft frees but they were there and you need to show more care infront of goals when you are defending.

West Adelaide have not learnt how to win yet and we tighten up and worry more about not making mistakes than they do about getting on with the job.

One factor I noticed that has not been mentioned yet is why was Jason Farrier in only his second league game was left on Duldig? Farrier tried his guts out but he was too short and completely out muscled by Duldig. I mentioned to the blokes around me early in the third quarter that this particular mis match could well cost us the game. Why Fergusson was not moved back there in the second half was a worry to me, Ferg played a great first half up forward but faded out of the game a lot IMO and we needed his stopping ability and drive coming out of defence.

I'll put up my hand...

Yes you lifted your intensity and forced us into some errors but conversely we dropped our intensity (especially in our forward 50) and we let the ball come out with alacrity (hence my Sydney heads comment). When clear with no pressure we took poor options and liarised with sloppy handballs and failure to honour leads which created pressure on ourselves which lead to turnovers and goals for you. We failed to set up our zone correctly.

Make no bones about it we let Westies back in and Westies took the opportunity and upped their workrate and kicked seven goals on the trott.

When we fianlly started playing football correctly in the last 15 mins of the game - we kicked to the hotspot instead of handballing willy-nilly, we got in and under first to the contest, we chased and harrased in our forward 50 well they game turned and we saluted the judge.

Sorry if you disagree.

Perhaps my judgement isn't as bad as MAY-Z thinks. I named 4 Glenelg players as their best and got 3 of them, including 1st and 2nd in order, plus Duldig. I still thought Pannozzo was good as well.

Despite the loss I do think that Westies are definatley on the improve and if they could get Hassan back into the side that wouldent hurt the depth available at the club either which seems to be improving steadilly over last season, Westies v Norwood at Richmond should be an interesting game with both clubs comming off losses and it will be interesting to see how Westies go after clearly playing an improved game this week.

One thing Glenelg have to really look at is getting a better race for the umpires, they had to run up that tiny little thing where you can reach from one side to the other and it only comes to about waist high on the supporters.

There were a few very angry West Adelaide supporters who took their frustrations out on the umpires and gave them a massive spray.

Looked pretty ugly and you could tell a couple of them were intimidated by it. A couple of err 'rotund' securtiy staff turned up a bit late and were pretty ineffective.

Can't see how this is going to help us get in the good books with the umps.

West Adelaide dont exactly have the biggest supporter base and we are far from being the most angry, imagine if it had of been one of the bigger clubs with 50 of them abusing the umps.

Something Glenelg needs to look at.

Was a fantastic day at the Bay, nice breeze, warm sun, cold beer & good viewing 8)

Sorry but first off imho - we go sideways because that seems to be the gameplan atm handball sideways when the opposition gets numbers back, we are afraid of bombing the ball in long and our forwards aren't working hard enough to come up the ground and get free. Roar didn't deserve the free kick he got he threw the ball away, we where lucky, very lucky to get away with a win and we wont beat many other sides playing like we did yesterday. Don't like our gameplan atm i think we have the quality to back ourselves in to go one on one a lot more then what we do then to go sideways all the time.

Dunno there would've only been about 500 westies supporters there haven't seen so little opposition numbers for ages at one of our home games, was a great crowd though.
