Good read but noticed they did a best 21 for every team, i presume they do this and take into account that every player at the club is fit and inform. That was were my surprise was at when they couldn't find room for Andrew Hayes in our best 21

New players, if they make the final 21, are Cheep, Rowntree, Miles, Allmond and Papps.
Last year our backline was a weak link for the first half of the season. It looks to be our strong point at the moment, at least on paper. Will be interesting to see how the team goes. Lots of new faces.

FF: J.Giles D.Havelberg I.Callinan
HF: E.Sansbury M.Westhoff C.Gowans
C: B.O'Hara J.Gowans L.Spurr
HB: L.Barmby J.Hardy R.Williams
FB: P.Thomas Y.Sibenaler A.Switala
1R: J.Griffin B.Symes M.Slade
INT: S.Dutschke J.Mackenzie K.Jenner
I like the look of the team and having Griffin and Symes available from the Crows is a bonus. Still a few out with Schell, Hayes, Cochrane, O'Sullivan and Goodrem just to name a few. Interesting that Roy Laird has chosen to go with 3 talls having Griffin lead the ruck, Giles as the second tall up forward in the pocket and Buckets Mackenzie backing up from the interchange bench.
That means Luke Barmby, Justin Hardy and Kyle Jenner will make their league debut for Centrals (with of course Jenner previously playing league at Port Magpies) and I wish these boys all the best of luck. Great to see Lee Spurr get a spot, his trial form has been good and Luke Barmby's persistance in the reserves over the last 3 years (much like Brayden O'Hara) gets his opportunity at league level.
Ashley Duncan, Heath Lawry, Dave Allocca and Luke Habel might be a tad unlucky to not be in the side but that that just shows the great depth the club has this year. Although I haven't seen the reserves side, I assume Trent Goodrem didn't come up with his ankle and I guess Chad O'Sullivan will have a full run in the seconds. Looking forward to this game, bring on Saturday night !!

Interesting that Robert Shirley, who didn't make the 22 for the Crows isn't named in the Eagles side...
He is the 1st emergency so I assume he will travel to Melbourne and therefore not play...

Like I said earlier, I haven't seen the reserves side as yet but I'm pretty sure he is out injured at the moment...
He didn't play in the last 2 trials after playing the first one against Glenelg in the league side, so I assume injured...
There is nothing listed on the Crows injury list from their web site about Ricky so check to Advertiser tomorrow for the reserves side...

Robert Shirley has not played for the Eagles since 2004, but has 91 matches to his credit.
I know from the above posts that there will be a few Dogs players missing; but for us, the side would look better if Passador, Treeby, Westbrook, Symmons and R.Fiacchi in there. The players who are in the side at the moment will know that they are easily replaceable and should play with that in mind to keep their spot.

Well said Phil, as a good mate of Barmby's I've seen some of his frustrations at not being able to crack the league side, but he's worked really hard and it's excellent to see him get his chance. The similarities to O'Hara's career are everywhere, and I think he'd be able to pick the pace of the game up naturally and be a good contributor in Central's best 21 (if he isn't forced out by Hayes, Cochrane, O'Sullivan etc)Big Phil wrote:Here is the Doggies reserves side for the weekend, showing a fair bit of depth will be around this year for them...
CENTRALS RESERVES:
Allocca, Brading, Catteral, Duncan, Dunne, Economou, Foldesdy, Frail, Habel, Hadden, Hannath, Hynes, Kelly, Lawry, Matson, McShane, Nason, O'Hara, O'Sullivan, Porter, Vator, L.Westhoff, White
Ashley Duncan would have to consider himself unlucky to not be making his league debut after playing well in all 3 league trials so far. But, this is again a sign of good depth which will only get stronger as more league players come back from injury. I'm really happy for Luke Barmby with his league debut, after a long apprenticeship in the 2's his persistance has paid off and much like Brayden O'Hara, could have left for better opportunities elsewhere but he has stuck around for 3 or 4 years in the 2's and now gets his chance. Good luck Milky !!
